Editor

Parallax•Denver, CO

About The Position

Parallax is hiring an Editor for an outcomes-based contractor engagement focused on producing high-volume, platform-ready video content in support of election reform. The role is measured by shipped work rather than hours logged, with a target of 5–10 or more polished cuts per week across TikTok, Reels, and Shorts, using raw footage and creative briefs. The editor is expected to deliver rough assemblies within hours of receiving footage and polished short-form cuts within 24 hours. Deliverables must be tailored to their destination platforms, including the correct aspect ratio, hooks, pacing, captions, text overlays, and sound design. The editor is expected to use AI tools to accelerate editing, iterate on cuts in response to shared analytics, and provide organized project files, labeled exports, and archived source media with each cut. The work supports Parallax’s effort to advance open, all-candidate primaries as a means of increasing voter participation, improving representation, and reducing polarization. The engagement pays a $7,000 monthly retainer. The contractor is responsible for applicable taxes, insurance, and business expenses; no employee benefits are provided.

Requirements

  • 2–8 years of experience editing video content.
  • A track record of producing a polished 60-second cut in under 2 hours and a rough assembly in 30 minutes.
  • Experience integrating AI tools into an editing workflow, such as Descript, Runway, CapCut auto-edit, or custom GPT-driven processes, and willingness to test new tools.
  • Strong editing taste, including clean cuts, intentional pacing, and well-designed typography.
  • Understanding of platform retention curves and hook theory, including the importance of the first three seconds; ability to edit for short-form scrolling platforms.
  • Ability to interpret clear creative direction and deliver cuts close to final without extensive rework.
  • Interest in applying editing skills to Parallax’s election reform mission.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver rough assemblies within hours of receiving footage and polished short-form cuts within 24 hours.
  • Prepare every deliverable to the specifications of its destination platform, including aspect ratio, hook structure, pacing, captions, text overlays, and sound design.
  • Use AI tools such as auto-transcription, rough-cut generation, smart reframing, and caption automation to accelerate editing and turnaround.
  • Deliver recuts and format adjustments in response to analytics shared by the project lead, applying learnings to subsequent cuts.
  • Provide clean project files, labeled exports, and archived source media with every cut so assets can be located, repurposed, and audited.
