About The Position

Provides the AAO with editorial content and manages projects related to member communications. Oversee the planning and development of channels such as The Practice Management Bulletin, eBulletin, and news articles on the member website.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or the equivalent in education and experience with emphasis in journalism, communications, or marketing
  • 3-5 years prior experience in a role with responsibility for publications, editing, content curation, or internal communications
  • Meticulous attention to detail in writing and editing.
  • Ability to manage many projects simultaneously, from assignment to delivery, including planning print publications and direction of design and layout processes for the publications
  • Expert-level skills in respective editorial software, such as MS Office, Excel, etc.
  • Familiarity with online analytical tools (such as email analytics).
  • Excellent peer-to-peer leadership skills.
  • Strong organizational skills to provide consistently good work under pressure
  • Time is well managed, and multiple tasks are appropriately prioritized
  • Strong eye for engaging on-brand visual presentation, and selection of photography and other visual elements well-suited to editorial content
  • Data-driven: Research skills to identify opportunities for optimization
  • Working knowledge of search engine optimization (SEO) and ability to drive high-quality web traffic from various member communication platforms, such as email.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with healthcare or related industry communications preferred

Responsibilities

  • Develop printed and electronic member communications that demonstrate the AAO vision with responsibility for all copywriting.
  • Project management, planning, and development of current and future editorial content for member communication channels.
  • Project management, planning, and development of current and future print editorial content for print publications, including Annual Session print publications, The Practice Management Bulletin, and the Orthodontic Advocate.
  • Manage the approval process of materials for publishing through respective parties.
  • Coordinate advertising material reviews with respective staff, doctor reviews, external parties, and legal reviews.
  • Coordinate editorial alignment with advertising content and provide editorial review of materials included in member communications.
  • Provide editorial input on media kit content to ensure alignment with member communication messaging and publications.
  • Collaborate with the meetings and marketing teams to support editorial and visual content needs related to Annual Session.
