About The Position

Inspira Education Group is a rapidly expanding edtech startup in the US, dedicated to democratizing access to high-quality coaching for students worldwide. The company is supported by prominent venture capital firms and investors. A key aspect of this role involves improving writers' skills through constructive feedback and contributing to the evolution of Inspira's content quality standards, including style guides and editorial workflows, particularly in the context of AI-driven search.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of professional editing experience in digital publishing, content marketing, or a similar field, with before/after samples.
  • Excellent command of grammar, structure, and style, with the judgment to know when rules can be adapted.
  • Experience owning or significantly shaping a house style guide.
  • A proven ability to provide feedback that improves writers' subsequent drafts.
  • Genuine curiosity about the impact of AI and AI-driven search on content, with practical experience adapting to these changes.
  • Comfort working with subject-matter experts and non-professional writers, including the ability to push back diplomatically but firmly.
  • Strong organizational skills for managing editorial workflow across multiple pieces and stakeholders.
  • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced, deadline-driven startup environment.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience editing for a competitive, high-stakes audience (e.g., admissions, higher education, professional services).
  • Familiarity with SEO fundamentals, including intent matching, natural anchor text, and avoiding over-optimization.
  • Experience building or documenting editorial processes from scratch.
  • Background in content strategy, beyond just line editing.

Responsibilities

  • Edit for quality at the sentence and structure level.
  • Identify and correct spelling, grammar, factual, and formatting errors.
  • Rewrite passive constructions into active voice and promote plain language over jargon.
  • Condense sentences and remove unnecessary words to improve clarity and conciseness.
  • Verify the logical and accurate hierarchy of headings (H1 → H2 → H3).
  • Trace claims, statistics, and quotes to their primary sources and flag unverified information.
  • Define proper nouns and terms upon first mention within each section.
  • Apply and maintain Inspira's house style guide consistently, including punctuation, capitalization, formatting, and tone.
  • Flag deviations from the style guide for writer learning, rather than fixing them silently.
  • Contribute to the evolution of the style guide based on content and audience growth, fostering buy-in.
  • Edit content to optimize for discoverability and usability by both readers and AI.
  • Match content format to search intent (e.g., listicle for transactional, guide for informational).
  • Ensure content sections begin with the main point in the first one or two sentences.
  • Structure content into self-contained, question-answering chunks for easy citation by readers or LLMs.
  • Formulate key claims as clear subject-predicate-object statements for readers and retrieval systems.
  • Identify and correct phrasing that appears optimized for crawlers rather than people.
  • Ensure link text is specific and descriptive, avoiding generic phrases like 'click here'.
  • Elevate content originality and expertise by evaluating the addition of original data, expert quotes, or first-hand experience.
  • Assess content for genuine expertise demonstrated through sourcing, credentials, and depth.
  • Differentiate between AI-generated content and content requiring human lived experience or judgment, guiding writers toward the latter.
  • Design and document repeatable editorial workflows, including briefs, review stages, and approval gates.
  • Provide writers with specific, actionable feedback that explains the underlying principles of changes.
  • Regularly audit top-performing content to understand its competitive advantages.
  • Understand the role of each piece within Inspira's broader content strategy.

Benefits
