About The Position

The Editor, Cancer Information, will provide high-quality editorial support for a variety of digital- and print-based cancer information content. This role focuses on ensuring that cancer information is clear, accurate, accessible, and aligned with CCS standards. Working closely with content writers, project managers, and subject matter experts, the editor will refine content across digital, print and other formats. The successful candidate brings strong editing and plain-language expertise, a collaborative mindset, and the ability to support efficient content production processes across the team.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant discipline (e.g., English, Communications, Journalism, Health or Science Communications).
  • Minimum 5 years of experience writing, editing and applying the standards of plain language.
  • Minimum 5 years editing for digital, including accessibility and usability considerations.
  • Experience with consumer health content, cancer-related information or medical information is an asset.
  • Experience working in component content management systems and other CMSs.
  • Familiarity with SEO, information architecture, taxonomy, and digital content production workflows.
  • Familiarity with AI-assisted writing and editing tools (e.g., language models, grammar enhancement tools, content-analysis tools).
  • Excellent editorial judgement; strong grammar, clarity, and stylistic editing skills.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills; able to collaborate with writers, PMs, and SMEs.
  • Ability to manage time effectively and work independently within project timelines.

Nice To Haves

  • Additional training or professional development in editing or plain language considered an asset.
  • Professional designation (e.g., Editors Canada) considered an asset.
  • Bilingualism (French/English) is highly preferred, with French being an asset due to the organization’s nationwide operations and the need for effective communication across various regions.

Responsibilities

  • Edit cancer-related information for clarity, comprehensibility and tone
  • Edit and proofread online cancer information.
  • Edit and proofread video scripts and descriptive transcripts.
  • Develop, edit or proofread print booklets.
  • Ensure all content is clear, accurate, inclusive, and aligned with the CCS writing manual and plain-language standards.
  • Apply and advise on grammar, tone, style, and in-house CCS editorial standards.
  • Collaborate with content writers and cross-functional partners by providing clear comments, guidance, and rationale for edits.
  • Ensure consistent use of plain language, inclusive language, and accessibility best practices.
  • Contribute updates to editorial guidelines, templates, and content standards.
  • Stay current with evolving editorial, language and accessibility standards relevant to consumer health information.
  • Edit or proofread content for other departments as needed, such as social media posts, impact reports and statistics publications and infographics.
  • Meet with the content team regularly to address content gaps and improve the editorial processes.
  • Help expand the reach of CCS cancer information products and services by applying plain-language standards, using inclusive language, etc.
  • Support enterprise content initiatives, including governance or standards committees
  • Other duties as assigned
