About The Position

The Editor Associate for the Bilingual Press | Editorial Bilingüe supports all stages of the editorial and production process—from manuscript evaluation and editing through design, marketing, and distribution. This role requires a strong editorial eye, fluency in both English and Spanish, and a passion for Latino/a/x and bilingual publishing. The Editor Associate will collaborate closely with the Publisher and Managing Editor, the Bilingual Press | Editorial Bilingüe staff, student interns, authors, and institutional and community partners to help uphold the Press’s mission of promoting a wide array of linguistic and cultural experiences.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree and three (3) years of experience appropriate to the area of assignment/field; OR, Any equivalent combination of experience and/or training from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.
  • Excellent command of written English and Spanish.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, and editing tools (Track Changes, Adobe Acrobat).
  • Knowledge of The Chicago Manual of Style and familiarity with editorial best practices.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree in English, Spanish, Creative Writing, Publishing, Latino/a/x Studies, or a related field required.
  • 1–3 years of experience in editorial or publishing work, preferably in a small or university press environment.
  • Familiarity with bilingual or translation editing workflows.
  • Excellent organizational and time-management skills.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work collaboratively across multiple teams.
  • Experience with layout and production software (Adobe InDesign, Photoshop, or equivalent).
  • Familiarity with book distribution systems and metadata management.
  • Understanding of open-access and bilingual publishing models.
  • Experience with event planning, marketing, or literary outreach (especially bilingual events).
  • Experience working with students—such as supervising editorial interns, coordinating internship programs, or mentoring student assistants within an academic or publishing setting.
  • Interest in contemporary Latino/a/x, Chicano/a/x, and bilingual literature.
  • Experience with accounting, especially accounting for small businesses and financial auditing.
  • Experience with translation between Spanish and English, especially literary translation.

Responsibilities

  • Review and evaluate manuscript submissions (fiction, poetry, creative nonfiction, and scholarly works).
  • Collaborate with authors during developmental, copyediting, and proofreading stages—ensuring bilingual consistency and stylistic quality.
  • Prepare manuscripts for layout and production in accordance with house style.
  • Manage editorial calendars, track project progress, and coordinate production deadlines.
  • Draft catalog copy, author bios, metadata, and promotional materials in both English and Spanish.
  • Maintain editorial documentation, style guides, and author correspondence.
  • Assist with metadata entry, ISBN management, and distribution logistics.
  • Support public-facing efforts, including social media content, author events, and press outreach.
  • Collaborate with ASU partners, including the Hispanic Research Center, University Libraries, and others.
