About The Position

Syms Strategic Group (SSG) is seeking an experienced Edifecs Application Engineer for a full-time, 100% U.S.-based remote position supporting the Department of Veterans Affairs. The role administers, configures, troubleshoots, and enhances the Edifecs platform to support reliable, compliant Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) transaction processing. The position is W-2, requires U.S. citizenship, and requires or eligibility to obtain a Public Trust (MBI). Candidates from California, Colorado, Illinois, Minnesota, New Jersey, New York, Oregon, or Washington will not be considered. Military veterans are highly encouraged to apply. The engineer configures and maintains Edifecs XEServer, XEngine, TPM, SpecBuilder, and related modules; builds and optimizes processing rules, routing logic, and batch workflows; and investigates mapping issues, validation failures, functional errors, and performance bottlenecks. The role also supports deployments, environment refreshes, patching, upgrades, logging, JVM tuning, and certificate and keystore configuration. The position works with EDI Analysts, DevSecOps Engineers, cloud teams, business teams, and development, operations, and security groups. Responsibilities span inbound and outbound connectivity, API integrations, transaction troubleshooting, throughput and high-availability optimization, AWS infrastructure considerations, compliance and partner governance, and translating business reporting needs into technical data models. The role requires strong documentation and the ability to communicate architectural decisions to non-technical stakeholders and resolve ambiguous architecture decisions with limited direction. Applicants must have at least eight years of experience in EDI, healthcare, or enterprise application operations and at least eight years in software or data engineering with strong AWS experience. A bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical discipline is requested; equivalent practical experience is considered. An Edifecs certification is listed under professional certifications. Desired experience includes hands-on healthcare X12 transactions, HIPAA-compliant cloud data architecture, and healthcare payer, PBM, clearinghouse, or pharmacy operations. AWS certification is a bonus. Applicants selected will be subject to a government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information and be able to obtain a government-granted security clearance. Background screening may include criminal history, employment and education verification, drug testing, and creditworthiness. Interviews are conducted on Microsoft Teams with camera on, and applicants will be asked to provide a LinkedIn profile link. Recruiters and third parties will not be considered. SSG is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
