About The Position

The ED Technician provides assistance with delegated tasks of direct and indirect patient care under the supervision of a registered nurse. This role involves assisting with orthopedic procedures as delegated by physicians and other health team members, performing vital sign assessments and documentation, and assisting with triage assessment and documentation under the direct supervision of a RN. Responsibilities include completing EKGs, applying orthopedic devices such as traction and OCL splints, educating patients on the use of orthopedic devices and crutch walking, and assisting with wound care, ENT, orthopedic procedures, eye/ear irrigations, suture/staple removal, foley leg bag application, c-spine immobilization, and bladder scanning. The ED tech also contributes to the maintenance of Emergency Department supplies and assists with orientation, training, and quality assurance activities. This individual must be able to communicate patient status data and delegated task information effectively, demonstrating knowledge of growth and development principles and interpreting age-specific patient needs.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Minimum one year of patient care experience required.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Works flexible hours that may include days, evenings, nights, holidays and weekends.
  • Demonstrated ability to adapt to unpredictable situations within the patient care setting.
  • Basic Life Support certification is required upon hire and must be valid for 90 days or greater from start date.
  • Maintains Basic Life Support (BLS) competency.
  • Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) certification through the Arizona Department of Health Services required.

Nice To Haves

  • 1 year ED experience preferred.
  • Previous emergency department patient care experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Assists with delegated tasks of direct and indirect patient care under the supervision of a registered nurse.
  • Assists with orthopedic procedures as delegated by Orthopedic/Emergency Department physicians, RN Team Lead and other health team members.
  • Performs vital sign assessment and documentation.
  • Performs triage assessment and documentation under the direct supervisor of a RN.
  • Completes 12 EKGs.
  • Applies orthopedic devices to include traction and OCL splints.
  • Provides patient education with regards to the application of orthopedic devices, crutch walking, etc.
  • Assists with wound care, ENT, orthopedic procedures, eye/ear irrigations, suture/staple removal, foley leg bag application, c-spine immobilization and bladder scanning.
  • Provides assistance in the evolution and maintenance of supplies pertaining to the Emergency Department.
  • Assists with orientation, training and quality assurance activities for the Emergency Department.
  • Communicates data reflective of the patient's status, delegated tasks and/ or functions.
  • Interprets information relative to the patient's age-specific needs, demonstrating knowledge of the principles of growth and development of the life span.
