About The Position

Performs various patient care activities and related non-professional services necessary to care for the personal needs and comfort of patients as a member of the health care team, under the supervision of a licensed nurse. Assists in maintenance of a safe and clean environment. This position is represented by RCHEA.

Requirements

  • High School graduate or GED required
  • Six months experience in patient care in an acute hospital preferred
  • BLS Certification following American Heart Association guidelines required (no other cards accepted)
  • Current Certified Nursing Assistant or EMT I certification required
  • 12 Lead EKG competency
  • Basic knowledge of medical terminology required
  • Frequent bending, squatting, kneeling, climbing, reaching above shoulders, sitting, walking inclines and declines, standing, talking, hearing, and performing repetitive hand motions.
  • Vision requirements include close vision and the ability to adjust focus.
  • The employee will occasionally pull, lift, transfer, or push a patient side to side, to a sitting position, to a standing position, or laterally.
  • The employee must demonstrate a pull lift of 50 pounds from the floor.
  • Category 1 for potential exposure to blood/body fluids. (Requires the performance of procedures or other tasks in the work routine that involve an inherent potential for mucous membranes or skin contact with blood, body fluids or tissues, or a potential for spills or splashes of them. Protective measures should be used while engaged in Category 1 tasks with exposure potential.)

Responsibilities

  • Applies simple dressings.
  • Assists registered nurse and physician with procedures.
  • Coordinates the desk for phone calls, order entry, charge adjustments, transfers of patients, ordering of supplies, stocking supplies, adjusting charges on back log, and other duties as assigned either verbally or in writing.
  • Knows basic life-support and assists with CPR as needed.
  • Maintains and meets expectations on time for all competencies, license, certifications and education requirements as outlined by local administration, Adventist Health (AH), The Joint Commission (TJC), Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), and all other regulatory agencies.
  • Monitors and documents vital signs.
  • Willingly performs other duties and innovations as assigned.
