About The Position

This is a part-time, dual role for an ED Technician/Health Unit Coordinator working a weekend program. The schedule involves working every Saturday and Sunday from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., with one weekend off per quarter. This position is benefits-eligible and requires holiday rotation, including working 2-3 holidays per year. The role involves direct patient care, assisting with procedures, monitoring patients, maintaining supplies and equipment, ensuring customer service, and collaborating with peers for coverage. Basic clerical functions may also be required.

Requirements

2-3 years of hospital patient care or pre-hospital patient care experience, OR completion of 1 year of nursing school clinical rotations, OR Certified Nursing Assistant.
Ability to use keyboard and see computer screen.
Ability to move/lift patients and push carts.
Current CPR certification.
Completion of age-specific competency.

Responsibilities

Perform direct patient care as directed by nursing and medical staff based on skills such as bedside monitor application and lead placement, 12 lead EKGs, phlebotomy, orthopedic post molds and splints, crutch training, monitoring and discontinuation of urinary catheters, and assisting patients with ADLs and toileting.
EMT-Ps licensed by IDPH may complete the housewide competency to start IVs, saline locks, and administer IV fluids.
Assist both nursing and physicians to perform various invasive procedures such as advanced airway and central line insertion.
Document all interventions in the electronic medical record.
Assist with the application of hard and soft restraints and monitor behavioral health patients according to policy.
Immediately report concerns regarding patient status to nursing and medical staff.
Ensure adequate medical supplies and equipment are available and maintained throughout the shift, including cleaning and organizing patient care areas and utility rooms.
Continually assess levels of medical supplies and equipment, initiating orders for needed supplies.
Ensure adequate levels of linen are available in all patient care areas.
Perform gross cleaning of used sterile instruments and transport them to Sterile Processing.
Clean flexible scope and fiberoptic laryngoscope blades according to policy.
Monitor equipment function and report/remove malfunctions.
Complete patient rounds on an hourly basis, managing patient expectations using AIDET and reporting concerns for service recovery.
Make rounds on patients in the ED waiting room per department guidelines.
Deliver high-quality patient care in accordance with ED quality initiatives.
Maintain annual competencies in compliance with applicable policy and procedure.
Maintain competency in all ED Tech assignment patient care areas.
Perform point of care testing according to applicable policy and procedure.
Communicate with ED Charge Nurse and fellow ED Techs to meet patient care needs.
Transport patients, supplies, and equipment interdepartmentally when necessary.
Transport patients utilizing wheelchairs and carts.
Transport blood products, medications, x-rays, and medical supplies as needed.
Maintain basic knowledge of clerical functions such as telephone and basic order entry to assist with coverage of UIC when necessary.
