About The Position

Under the direction of a registered nurse and/or physician, the ED Tech assists in the care and treatment of patients. This role is per diem/on-call, with a schedule that varies as needed. A key responsibility is providing Spanish/English interpretive services to limited-English-proficiency (LEP) patients throughout the hospital, the Community Paramedic Program, and clinics. The position also involves interviewing incoming patients or their representatives for registration and discharge information during limited hours, assisting physicians and healthcare staff in communication for medical care and administrative requirements, and helping LEP patients adapt to an environment where their native language is not spoken by facilitating comfort through communication.

Requirements

High School Diploma or equivalent.
ED Technician, graduate of medical assistant program, CNA or EMT I.
Ability to read, write, and speak English and LEP patient’s language (only English to Spanish) demonstrated by the ability to pass an oral exam administered by ALTA qualified interpreters or obtain DSHS LIST certification for Spanish Language.
Knowledge of basic medical terminology.
BLS certification.

Responsibilities

Assists in the care and treatment of patients under the direction of a registered nurse and/or physician.
Provides Spanish/English interpretive services to limited-English-proficiency (LEP) patients throughout the hospital, Community Paramedic Program, and clinics.
Interviews incoming patients or representatives for required information for registration and discharge during limited hours.
Assists physicians and healthcare staff in the communication process for rendering medical care and other administrative requirements.
Assists LEP patients in adapting to an environment where their native language is not spoken by helping make them more comfortable through the communication process.
