This role assists physicians and registered nurses in providing technical care to patients. The ED Tech performs various procedures including phlebotomy, transporting patients, monitoring patients with cardiac and vital sign monitors, wound care, Foley catheter insertion, and obtaining lab specimens. They may also perform IV starts if permitted by state regulations. The position involves documenting patient information and procedures, communicating observations to nurses, processing daily patient charges through the Electronic Health Record (EHR), and collaborating with physicians to support patient care communications. The ED Tech is responsible for maintaining a clean and safe working environment, monitoring and troubleshooting equipment, and performing patient positioning and transporting duties that require physical exertion. A key aspect of the role is demonstrating knowledge and skills appropriate for the age of the patients served, understanding growth and development principles, and assessing patient status based on age-specific needs.
