About The Position

This position serves as an essential support system to the Emergency Department, providing assistance with patient care and diagnostics. The role involves assisting nursing staff in the provision of care for emergency patients by obtaining EKGs, performing phlebotomy, patient transport, and providing C.N.A. type of care. The ED Tech will also assist medical staff with various procedures and patient preparations.

Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent
1-2 years of prior field-related and other job-related experience (such as Certified Medical Assistant (CMA); Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) or Emergency Medical Technician (EMT))
Proper usage of universal precautions and compliance with OSHA and CLEA regulations
BLS required
CNA, EMT, or CMA certified

Responsibilities

Perform 12-lead EKG's and submit results to professionals (RN/MD) for analysis
Perform phlebotomy on patients in all age groups
Collect and label specimens and send them to the laboratory
Transport patients to other departments as necessary
Perform vital signs (temp, pulse, respiration, BP, oximetry) and ADL's and record on ED Chart
Check equipment and stock rooms as assigned and be responsible for instrument processing
Assist nurses in care delivery or procedures as directed
Assist MD with laceration repairs, casting and splinting
Wash simple wounds and apply simple splints
Assist patients in preparing for examination by RN and MD
Perform simple therapeutic measure such as application of heat/cold therapies, oxygen, blood glucose monitoring, bladder scanner, and application of a cardiac monitor
Display competency for the Emergency Department Technician role as evidenced in the annual performance appraisal following the FHN PRIDE Standards
