About The Position

This position is for an Emergency Department Revenue Coordinator responsible for reviewing all aspects of Charge management within the Emergency Department. This includes charge validation, verification, Emergency Department documentation verification/HIM compliance, and revenue implementation verification. The role coordinates Emergency Department activities to promote optimal integration of clinical outcomes with documentation and governing body compliance. Additionally, the position involves administrative functions such as analyzing the EMR System for continuous improvement and collaborating with other departments to enhance Emergency Department logistical efficiency and accuracy.

Requirements

  • Equivalent to completion of four years of high school with a high school diploma required.

Nice To Haves

  • College courses preferred.
  • Skills with experience in planning, organizing, implementing, verbal and written communications preferred.
  • Knowledge of and training in medical record assembling and analysis preferred.
  • Basic typing and computer skills with previous experience in hospital EHR, navigation through CPSI, hospital statistical analysis preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Review all aspects of Charge management in the Emergency Department setting to include, but not limited to charge validation, verification, Emergency Department documentation verification/HIM compliance, and revenue implementation verification.
  • Coordinate Emergency Department activities to promote optimal integration of clinical outcomes with documentation and governing body compliance.
  • Perform the day to day workflow that includes the careful analysis of the EMR System for continuous improvement.
  • Work collaboratively with all departments to improve Emergency Department logistical efficiency and accuracy.
  • Attend organizational and departmental orientation upon employment and complete annual update and health requirements thereafter and in accordance with timeframes specified by organizational policy.
  • Demonstrate a working knowledge of and/or location of organizational policies and procedures as well as adhere to them.
  • Exhibit a working knowledge of information management, confidentiality, patient/residents safety, corporate compliance and infection control.
  • Possess knowledge of reporting errors or near misses without fear or blame/punishment for reporting accidents/incidents.
  • Address and report problems as they arise.
  • Complete required competencies, licensure, certification and registration recertification in a timely manner, as well as participate in continuing education.
  • Arrive to work on time, on scheduled days, during scheduled hours.
  • Maintain flexibility with work schedule in meeting the needs of the department.
  • Provide age specific care demonstrating knowledge of growth and development, system assessment and developing an interdisciplinary plan of care addressing culture, religion and ethnic preferences.
  • Attend 75% of mandatory departmental meetings and in-services.
  • Utilize equipment and materials in a cost effective manner.
  • Participate in performance improvement activities.
  • Serve as a preceptor in orienting and/or training new personnel.
  • Follow chain of command whenever issues or problems arise which are beyond scope of practice.
  • Perform essential job functions in an acceptable quantity and quality.
  • Review charts/charges and evaluate the quality of documentation to identify incomplete or inconsistent documentation, demographics and other data that impacts the chart completion.
  • Enter and audit charge capture and assist with charge master implementation.
  • Complete follow-up on inaccurate documentation until a resolution has been obtained.
  • Coordinate with necessary departments, providers, and/or Director of Emergency Department to resolve documentation/charge discrepancies.
  • Maintain statistical data within the department for tracking of compliance and improvement of care.
  • Ensure the timely completion of all department charts within timeframes specified by HIM department procedure and policy.
  • Scan all loose or late documentation and rescan incorrectly scanned or mislabeled documents, including those that are scanned while still incomplete.
  • Notify chain of command when accuracy can’t be resolved.
  • Serve as a resource for the department for scanning/documentation education.
  • Perform administrative functions within the department, including but not limited to answering phone, copying, scanning, faxing, emailing and staffing coverage during department operating hours and lunch.
  • Communicate deficiencies with physicians, practitioners and staff as well as chart completion.
