About The Position

Under the direction of, and in collaboration with unit management, performs responsibilities exercising initiative, judgment and independent decision-making within the scope of the State Nurse Practice Act, hospital policy and other governing organizations. Utilizes the nursing process (assessment, planning, intervention, evaluation) in a systematic approach to the direct and indirect care of patients and their families.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing
  • Current, unencumbered Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of Minnesota
  • At least 1 year of experience working in an Emergency Department is required.
  • Successful completion of a criminal background check as required by the State of Minnesota

Responsibilities

  • Obstetrics, Pediatrics, Medical, Surgical (inpatient/outpatient), Emergency, Senior Care, Nursery, Chemotherapy and Ambulance Transport as needed/delegated.
  • Maintains certifications in all areas within scope of practice
  • Supervision of LPNs, Nursing Assistants and Health Unit Coordinators as needed.
  • Demonstrates effective interviewing and assessment skills and integrates new or current techniques to obtain physical/psycho-social information from the patient/family to plan, implement, and evaluate patient care through the nursing process.
  • Initiates and maintains patient care plan to reflect current patient needs utilizing computerized documentation
  • Performs with minimal supervision, exercises good judgment to reduce errors.
  • Demonstrates willingness to work extra shifts if needed.
  • Demonstrates a willingness to train new staff.
  • Attends annual skills fair.
  • Uses personal protective equipment that is appropriate for the given task.
  • Reports accidents or incidents and safety hazards promptly.
  • Cleans equipment, spills, etc. as necessary.
  • Identifies needs, instructs others, and actively supports the role of patient advocate/liaison by communication and documentation of patient information to the proper resources/agencies.
  • Proper computerized documentation will be maintained at all times. This includes, but not limited to admission, discharge, medication administration, teaching, activities of daily living and accurate intake/output.
  • Identifies needs and concerns involving safety/risk management and quality improvement issues, participates in the research, action, and evaluation of proposed resolutions/interventions.
