The Middle East and Central Asia Department’s Division D is hiring an Economist/Senior Economist to work on Saudi Arabia. Saudi Arabia is a G20 member and the largest economy in the MCD region, and is pursuing wide-ranging reforms to diversify its economy, expand the private sector, and strengthen fiscal sustainability. The role involves work amid significant regional uncertainty and the IMF’s close dialogue with Saudi authorities, including through the country’s IMFC chairmanship, its capacity development partnership with the IMF, and the Fund’s regional office in Riyadh. The selected candidate will contribute to all aspects of the Saudi Arabia desk’s work, including macroeconomic analysis, drafting policy notes and staff reports, coordinating the macroframework, supporting self-financed capacity development, and managing other desk responsibilities. These include review work, following up on action items and requests, and liaising with the Front Office, Management, other departments, and stakeholders. The candidate will also contribute to division-wide analytical and policy work on issues relevant to the GCC region, prepare briefing books for management visits, and conduct review work for the division. Time permitting, there may be opportunities to participate in MCD policy groups and contribute to broader departmental work. Division D covers Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates.
