The Macro Risk Unit (RU) of the IMF’s Strategy, Policy, and Review Department (SPR) is hiring up to two economists. The unit identifies and analyzes global macroeconomic risks and vulnerabilities, integrates insights from country risk assessments in the Vulnerability Exercise (VE), undertakes strategic scenario planning, and gathers market intelligence to support Fund-wide surveillance and policy design. The selected candidate will contribute to workstreams based on their profile and the unit’s needs. All unit economists contribute to the VE by assessing risks across the IMF membership and emerging global risks. Depending on the assignment, the role may include analysis of fiscal, external, financial, real, or corporate risks; development of classical and machine-learning-based risk assessment models; strategic foresight exercises; updating the GRAM; and implementing the Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) framework in SPR. The role also serves as the SPR economist for an assigned country, focusing on external sector issues and acting as a liaison between SPR and the area department on Fund policies and procedures. The unit provides coaching and training in machine-learning techniques as needed.
