Economist/Senior Economist (Ukraine) - EURAE

International Monetary Fund•Washington, DC

About The Position

The European Department’s Eastern Unit is hiring an Economist/Senior Economist to work on Ukraine. The IMF supports Ukraine through the US$8.1 billion Extended Fund Facility approved by the Board in February 2026, which anchors the broader international financing and reform effort. The role offers the opportunity to contribute to policy design and implementation in a high-profile, exceptionally challenging environment, engaging with senior policymakers, international partners, and the European Department front office. The selected candidate will lead the team’s work on monetary policy, exchange rate policy, foreign exchange market developments, and capital flow management measures. The role may also cover policy areas beyond this core portfolio, and sectoral allocations may change over time. The team engages with the authorities through frequent virtual meetings, staff visits, and quarterly EFF review missions. The assignment counts toward the LIC/FCS experience requirement for promotion to A15 because Ukraine is classified as a Fragile and Conflict-Affected State.
