About The Position

The Economic Development Specialist series includes positions the duties of which involve supervising and participating in planning, developing and implementing economic development programs and activities. Level IV in the Economic Development Specialist series participates in the development of programs promoting Hawaii's products and the identification and development of programs to encourage the expansion of business and the attraction of new business to Hawaii; conducts research and analyses on a wide variety of topics associated with economic development; prepares reports of findings and recommendations and performs other related duties as assigned. This class reflects responsibility for participating in the development of specific projects and programs to promote Hawaii's products on the mainland and in foreign countries, conducting research and performing analyses associated with the development of such programs and for the purpose of identifying opportunities for new businesses or the expansion of existing businesses in Hawaii, and participating in developing promotional programs for business expansion purposes.

Requirements

  • Must be a citizen, national, or permanent resident alien of the United States, or eligible under federal law for unrestricted employment in the United States.
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited four-year college or university with a MAJOR in marketing, business administration, business or commercial law, economics, finance, foreign trade, or a closely related field.
  • Completion of three semester credit hours in statistics.
  • Education must have included knowledge of the general principles of economics, business statistical methodology and business management and administration.
  • Two and one-half (2-1/2) years of professional work experience demonstrating the possession and application of knowledge of marketing and business feasibility research and analysis.
  • Experience in various phases of marketing including product development, pricing, sales, advertising and promotion, distribution and marketing controls.
  • Experience in business practices pertaining to wholesale, retail, manufacturers' distribution, distribution costs, finance and tax structure, planning and management.
  • Familiarity with governmental organizations and programs as they relate to business and economics.
  • Possession of a valid driver's license at the time of appointment.

Responsibilities

  • Participating in developing promotional programs for business expansion purposes.
