Under general supervision of the Director of Economic Development and Government Affairs, the Business Development Coordinator manages and implements the City’s business retention and expansion and small business development programs. The position builds relationships with local businesses, identifies and responds to business needs, connects businesses with technical and financial resources, and monitors program outcomes. The Coordinator also supports business attraction activities, downtown redevelopment initiatives, economic research, marketing, special projects, and other departmental priorities. As the Economic Development Coordinator, you will: Coordinate the City’s Business Retention and Expansion Program, including work plans, business visits, follow-up procedures, and performance measures. Conduct business visits to identify operational challenges, workforce and infrastructure needs, expansion opportunities, regulatory concerns, and risks of closure or relocation. Build relationships with businesses, property owners, developers, industry representatives, and community partners. Coordinate assistance with City departments, utilities, workforce organizations, educational institutions, economic development partners, and government agencies. Connect businesses with financing, workforce assistance, permitting, incentives, procurement, training, and other resources. Maintain records of business visits, assistance provided, referrals, follow-up activities, investments, and jobs created or retained. Analyze business feedback, program results, and economic trends to recommend improvements to the local business environment. Prepare program reports, presentations, and updates for department leadership, the Economic Development Commission, City Council, and other stakeholders. Facilitate small business development programs, including technical assistance, workshops, entrepreneurship initiatives, applications processes, participant communications, referrals, and outcome reporting. Support Business Incubator operations and programming, including tenant recruitment, application evaluation, partner coordination, business assistance, and performance monitoring. Develop program guidelines, outreach strategies, training and networking opportunities, and performance measures that support business formation and growth. Assist with business attraction by supporting prospect inquiries, site visits, research, presentations, and property and market information. Support downtown redevelopment projects, business assistance, outreach, and revitalization initiatives. Assist with implementing the City’s economic development strategic plan and represent the City at meetings, conferences, trade shows, and community events. Support departmental marketing, research, public outreach, special events, and other economic development initiatives. Perform other related duties as assigned. Standard office software and technology used for research, presentations, data management, communication, and project tracking. Will possess the skills to: Develop and maintain effective relationships with businesses, property owners, developers, community organizations, government agencies, and other stakeholders. Conduct business visits, interviews, assessments, and follow-up activities to identify needs, opportunities, and potential barriers to business growth. Coordinate multiple projects, programs, activities, deadlines, and stakeholders simultaneously. Research, compile, analyze, and present economic, business, demographic, workforce, and market information. Prepare clear, concise, accurate, and professional reports, memoranda, presentations, correspondence, program materials, and other written communications. Deliver effective presentations and communicating complex information to business owners, community members, elected and appointed officials, and other audiences. Facilitate meetings, workshops, networking events, business assistance activities, and community outreach. Use databases, spreadsheets, presentation software, word-processing applications, and other technology to maintain records, analyze information, track performance, and communicate results. Identify appropriate financial, technical, workforce, permitting, training, and other resources and making effective referrals. Collect and maintain accurate program data and using performance measures to monitor outcomes and identify opportunities for improvement. Exercise sound judgment, discretion, professionalism, and customer service in working with confidential, sensitive, or complex business matters. Will possess the ability to: Plan, coordinate and conducts projects and multi-phase programs. Maintain complex program and project records. Prioritize and manage multiple tasks. Prepare and deliver clear, concise and effective formal public presentations as needed. Prepare clear, concise written reports, studies and memoranda.
