About The Position

The Economic Consultant SES leads the Economic Research and Analysis section’s Labor Market Analysis unit in the Bureau of Workforce Statistics and Economic Research (WSER), Division of Workforce Services. This position manages projects pertaining to economic, demographic, and employment research and analysis using programming, model building, statistics and regression techniques. They ensure the timely and accurate completion of projects and assignments assigned to the Labor Market Analysis team. They use strong relationships and communication skills to collaborate with diverse teams, agency partners and internal and external customers.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Economics, Statistics, Mathematics, or related Social Science.
  • Knowledge SQL, R programming, and any Web software applications.
  • Knowledge of statistical methods.
  • Knowledge of data collection techniques, ability to understand data.
  • Ability to supervise and motivate staff.
  • Duties and responsibilities of this position must be performed at the official work site of the Department.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree or above in Economics, Statistics, or Mathematics.
  • One year of supervisory experience in a research environment.

Responsibilities

  • Overseeing and assisting in the direction of labor market, economic, and census data analysis.
  • Preparing economic impact analyses, monthly press releases, Frequently Asked Questions, labor supply analysis, labor market area profiles and industry profiles, housing statistics, minimum wage, employment projections, and PowerPoint presentations.
  • Performing labor market, economic, and census statistical analysis.
  • Remaining current on statistical methods and procedures and maintaining statistical standards of reliability.
  • Assisting in the direction, design, and analysis of statistically valid surveys.
  • Remaining current on national and state economic/labor market conditions.
  • Assisting in the direction and preparation of PowerPoint presentations, economic impact analysis, ad-hoc employer surveys, job vacancy surveys, state and area press releases.
  • Responding to requests for information via e-mail, phone, mail, etc.
  • Supervising staff and assisting with the analysis and dissemination of labor market data.
  • Assisting in training and evaluating staff, assigning workload, determining priorities, and meeting all assigned deadlines.
  • Prioritizing projects for staff and reviewing and editing staff work prior to finalizing.
  • Maintaining high standards of statistical accuracy and data integrity.
  • Assisting in the direction of the production of labor market analysis reports.
  • Ensuring all analysis standards are met and properly sourcing all data items.
  • Using proper grammar, sentence structure, and spelling on all documents.
  • Using plain language when explaining technical methods as much as possible.
