JMT is seeking motivated professionals interested in ecological restoration, specifically the planning and design of stream, wetland, and habitat restoration projects. This role primarily supports projects in the Mid-Atlantic region but offers opportunities across JMT's broader footprint. The Project Engineer I will independently handle routine to moderately complex technical tasks, apply regulatory and design guidance, and identify when additional coordination or review is needed. The ideal candidate will be familiar with permitting requirements, work effectively in multidisciplinary teams, communicate technical information, and assist with marketing and proposal efforts. This role provides a clear path for career advancement within JMT's ecological restoration practice.

Responsibilities

  • Assess, analyze, and design stream, wetland, and ecological restoration projects, including natural habitats and ecosystems.
  • Perform hydrologic and hydraulic modeling and analysis for open channels, bridges, culverts, and drainage systems using Hec-Ras or similar modeling software.
  • Analyze and interpret survey data, maps, plans, aerial imagery, and topographic and geologic information to support project planning and design.
  • Conduct alternatives analyses to evaluate design approaches and project feasibility.
  • Develop erosion and sediment control designs, planting plans, and restoration specifications in accordance with regulatory requirements.
  • Design drainage infrastructure, including pipes, slopes, conveyance features, and outfalls.
  • Prepare plans, specifications, technical reports, construction cost estimates, and permitting or construction documents.
  • Complete designs in accordance with client requirements, applicable standards, and regulatory guidance, using industry standard design software.
  • Apply general engineering principles and best practices to execute assigned tasks efficiently and accurately.
  • Coordinate with internal project team members to meet established quality standards and project schedules.
  • Participate in quality control and quality assurance reviews in accordance with the Project Management Plan.
  • Provide technical guidance and support to junior staff or Design Engineers, as assigned.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
