About The Position

Eco-Experience is an environmental education program offered to mainly 5th graders (though some schools attend with middle school participants). These positions (8) provide class instruction and daily oversight for the program, lead campfire and evening activities, assist with mealtime such as helping clear trays, serve food, and monitor behavior, help coordinate logistics with teachers, facilitate ropes course and adventure components, and guide day hikes. A strong passion for outdoor activities and environmental education and previous experience working with youth in the outdoors is strongly recommended. This position will be open until filled. Live and work in a beautiful mountain valley for the summer and/or fall season at the Mountain Campus. Be part of a small community of staff working towards a common goal to serve the Education, Research, and Outreach missions at Colorado State University. Enjoy the mountain lifestyle – hiking, fishing, mountain biking, trail running, rock climbing, or lounging in a hammock with a good book – when you are “off-the-clock”. A few items to be aware of in regard to these positions are: Located 53 miles west of Fort Collins at 9,000 feet in a remote mountain valley. Housing and 3 meals daily provided as part of the compensation package. Employees work a 32 – 40-hour work week with two days off each week No pets or ESAs are permitted No cell phone service at the Mountain Campus Position is for fall- Mid-August to Mid-October

Requirements

  • Will be 18 years of age upon or before the first day of employment.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working with children in an outdoor or educational setting.
  • Current Wilderness First Aid or Wilderness First Responder certification.
  • Previous or comparable experience in ropes systems and group management.

Responsibilities

  • Provide environmental education instruction and daily supervision for participating student groups.
  • Lead campfire programs, evening activities, and assist with mealtime duties such as serving food, clearing trays, and monitoring behavior.
  • Coordinate daily logistics and communication with visiting teachers and school staff.
  • Facilitate ropes course and adventure-based activities with a focus on safety, teamwork, and skill development.
  • Guide day hikes and outdoor learning experiences that promote environmental awareness and engagement.
