About The Position

The Jewish Community Center of Greater Columbus ECLC LEAD/CO-LEAD TEACHER JOB DESCRIPTION 2023-2024. This position is responsible for planning, implementing, providing, and supervising safe classroom activities that promote the emotional, social, intellectual, and physical development of children. The Co-Lead Teacher will supervise assistant teachers, floaters, and substitutes, ensuring a safe and optimal learning environment. Collaboration with other Co-Leads on lesson planning, documentation, assessments, and parent communication is essential. The role supports the mission and vision of the JCC, which is to strengthen the individual, family, and community through Jewish-inspired programs and services that promote wellness and learning.

Requirements

  • CDA, AA or BS in Early Childhood Development, Elementary Education, a related field or equivalent relevant experience.
  • Strong knowledge of Jewish customs, culture and religion.
  • Previous experience working with young children; two years minimum preferred.
  • Knowledge of developmentally appropriate practices with young children.
  • Good oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work constructively with children and adults.
  • Professional and positive attitude.
  • Physically able to keep up with children, including lifting up to 25 pounds, running, sitting on the floor, and maintaining energy throughout the day.
  • Able to participate in outdoor and indoor activities.

Nice To Haves

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate duties and responsibilities with other classroom Co-Leads.
  • Create and implement weekly lesson plans on the Brightwheel site, incorporating secular and Judaic experiences, with an emphasis on the JCC Jewish curriculum, Creative Curriculum, Heggerty, and Step Up to Quality Standards.
  • Ensure lesson plans include activities in art, music, movement, math, science, and language to promote child development.
  • Greet each child and parent warmly and in a friendly manner each morning.
  • Partner with co-workers and administration to create a positive classroom and work environment.
  • Maintain a neat, organized classroom with a learning center focus, and ensure the upkeep of all educational equipment and materials.
  • Supervise assistant/floater/substitute teachers in the classroom, providing support and direction to ensure a safe environment.
  • Maintain and oversee Brightwheel communication, including newsletters, lesson plans, documentation, pictures, assessments, and daily reports to families.
  • Write and oversee children's assessments, conduct parent conferences mid-year and at the end of the year, and work with parents to promote understanding of their child's growth and development.
  • Build a "team" with assistant/floater/substitute staff by creating a safe and supportive environment.
  • Maintain confidentiality regarding children and families.
  • Supervise all activities to ensure the safety of each child at all times, complete incident or illness reports, and communicate information to the Director immediately.
  • Participate in Jewish learning opportunities and use the Judaic curriculum as a guideline for Jewish learning in the classroom and lesson plans.
  • Meet the needs of the children by consistently engaging and meeting each child's individual needs.
  • Participate actively in activities with the children, including free play, playground, circle time, and specialty classes, by actively supervising and engaging.
  • Attend monthly staff meetings.
  • Attend a week of in-service training prior to the start of the school year and additional evening Teacher Trainings as needed.
  • Attend Age Group/Curriculum Meetings and All Staff meetings as required.
  • Fulfill requirements for Step Up to Quality as an Assistant Teacher, including creating a Professional Development Plan yearly, completing SUTQ trainings, and enrolling in 2 hours of Ohio Approved trainings per year.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
