About The Position

This position involves coaching in various secondary school interscholastic athletic programs, promoting sports within the school and community, and planning the assigned specific sport program. The coach will organize and supervise practices, understand and enforce KHSAA rules, and prioritize the health and welfare of student-athletes. Responsibilities include teaching fundamental skills, team play, strategy, and sportsmanship, overseeing out-of-season conditioning, and checking participant eligibility. The coach will also serve as a role model, recommend equipment purchases within financial guidelines, manage booster club operations, and perform other assigned duties. Additionally, the coach will assist the Athletic Director in recruiting and hiring staff, maintain accurate records, adhere to the Estill County Public Schools Coaches Handbook, and work cooperatively with school staff and students.

Requirements

  • Meet all guidelines set forth by the Kentucky High School Athletic Association under Bylaw 27.
  • Follow all KHSAA Bylaws and SBDM Policies related to the operation of their respective program and the eligibility of student-athletes.
  • Successful completion and maintenance of KHSAA and/or Estill County Schools employment requirements (Background Check, Pre-employment Drug Screen, CAN, CPR, KHSAA Safety Course, Fundamentals of Coaching, etc.).

Responsibilities

  • Coaches in various secondary school interscholastic athletic programs.
  • Promotes sports in the schools and community through effective communication.
  • Plans the assigned specific sport program.
  • Organizes and supervises practices.
  • Understands, follows, and enforces all rules of the KHSAA related to his/her sport.
  • Places the health and welfare of the student-athlete above all other priorities.
  • Teaches individual fundamental skills, team play, team strategy, and rules and regulations of the game, with a particular emphasis on sportsmanship, and oversees out-of-season conditioning programs.
  • Checks eligibility of participants, including insurance coverage and parental consent.
  • Provides students a proper role model, emotional support, patience, a friendly attitude, and general guidance.
  • Recommends the purchase of equipment, supplies, and uniforms and works fully within the financial guidelines established by the SBDM Council.
  • Takes ownership of the operations of any booster club.
  • Performs all other related duties as assigned by the principal.
  • Assigns duties to the coaching staff.
  • Assists Athletic Director in recruiting and hiring all coaches.
  • Maintains accurate statistics, records, and results of the season.
  • Adheres to the Estill County Public Schools Coaches Handbook.
  • Works closely with the Athletic Director to schedule facility use.
  • Works cooperatively with all Estill County coaches, athletic directors, and students.
