Under the direction of the supervisor of non-invasive cardiology, the echo team performs all echocardiograms to include 2D, M-Mode, color Doppler, pulse wave Doppler, continuous wave Doppler, transesophageal echocardiogram, stress echo and other related examinations according to established standards an practices at a high technical level. The role involves assuring proper patient identification and safety, maintaining a safe and therapeutic environment, and demonstrating understanding of universal precautions, fire and disaster protocols. The position requires accurate completion of forms, records, and logs for billing, preparation of echocardiographic worksheets for physician review, and supporting the department's Quality Assurance process through data collection. The echocardiographer must demonstrate the ability to work independently, maintain positive professional relationships, and take instruction professionally. They must be able to respond to STAT calls, prioritize orders, and demonstrate technical proficiency in all echo procedures. Critical thinking skills are necessary to assess patient conditions and provide additional views to assist the cardiologist. The role also includes managing supplies within budget, participating in mandatory and continuing education, and responsible for patient preparation, including NPO status, transport, electrode placement, blood pressure cuff placement, IV access if needed, EKG monitoring, remaining with the patient, offering assistance under RN direction, and maintaining patient privacy and confidentiality. Age-specific care is provided for children 12+ years to 18 years, adults 18+ years to 65 years, and adults 65+ years.
