This position is accountable for operating the ultrasound scanners, IV contrast administration, transportation of patients to and from the department, handling telephone calls for scheduling patients, answering questions, and calling reports of exams. Must be able to handle patient support equipment, i.e. I.V. pumps, O2, etc. The incumbent helps clean rooms and equipment and order supplies, assist physicians with procedures and administer basic C.P.R. The incumbent helps the supervisor in the daily operation of the Echocardiology department. The incumbent must be able to maintain a high standard of imaging quality. A thorough knowledge of ultrasound physics, anatomy and positioning are essential for a quality exam. Must be able to handle multiple demands simultaneously and keep a helpful attitude towards patients, their families, office personnel, physicians, and associates. Must be able to coordinate patient prepping and scanning to maximize smooth patient flow. Must be available for 24-hour call back with a 45-minute response time. Must be able to help move patients when needed. Will participate in performance improvement initiatives. Will assist with other activities as deemed necessary for the day to day operation of the department. The incumbent must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served in his or her assigned area. The individual must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the lifespan and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his or her age-specific needs, and provide the care needed as described in the department's competency plan.
