About The Position

ECE496Y is a full-year course required for all fourth-year electrical and computer engineering students, allowing them to integrate the knowledge acquired over the first three years of study in the planning and execution of project proposed either by the student or by a supervisor. The course involves an introductory lecture and one or two subsequent lectures, with students working in teams on an individually determined schedule with their supervisors and administrators.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in an appropriate discipline (such as, but not limited to, Communication, English, Engineering, Education, Technology Studies).
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Demonstrated commitment to teaching communication.
  • Demonstrated ability to work as part of a team.

Nice To Haves

  • PhD in an appropriate discipline.
  • Familiarity with engineering communication practices.
  • Training in second-language instruction at the university level.
  • Experience as an instructor in a first-year foundation course, Engineering Strategies and Practice.
  • Experience in curriculum development.
  • Tutoring experience.
  • Experience working with a diverse group of students.

Responsibilities

  • Meet with design teams to give feedback on their Draft Proposal (Fall term).
  • Attend Practice Oral Presentations (Winter term).
  • Participate in orientation/instruction team meetings.
  • Convert to different communication instruction duties and move online if required.
