About The Position

Under supervision, this role assists the lead teacher with instructional activities to provide learning experiences to individual and small groups of students. The position involves integrating Muckleshoot language and culture into the classroom setting, supporting parent involvement, and maintaining a positive learning environment. The employee may also be expected to perform a variety of office and field duties as needed to support community service and well-being.

Requirements

  • Early Childhood Education Certificate or A Child Development (CDA) credential (Tribal members only: must be willing to obtain within 1 year of employment).
  • One (1) year of professional experience working with children in preschool, daycare, or similar setting.
  • Must pass a criminal background check, a drug screen and meet all health and immunization requirements.
  • Must be able to obtain satisfactory results on a pre-employment physical examination, including tuberculosis screening.
  • Effective communication with students, parents, or guardians, staff and administrators.
  • Working with children in an understanding, patient, receptive and confident manner.
  • Organizing activities in keeping with the maturity and attention span of assigned students.
  • Following written and oral instructions.
  • Managing student behavior.
  • Using standard office equipment, including personal computer.
  • Basic concepts of child development and developmental behavior characteristics.
  • Basic effective behavior management techniques.
  • Rules and procedures for child/student safety.
  • Read and write.
  • Follow verbal and written instructions.
  • Work with students in a positive and confident manner.
  • Observe safe work practices.
  • Establish and maintain cooperative work relationships.
  • Arrive to work in a timely manner.

Responsibilities

  • Assists instructional personnel with the presentation of learning materials and instructional exercises.
  • Assists individual students and small groups of students to reinforce and follow up learning activities.
  • Monitors and assists students in a variety of instructional activities as a follow-up to the presentation of instructional concepts by instructional personnel.
  • Participates in training and assists in integrating Muckleshoot language and culture in the classroom setting.
  • Participates in school meetings, IEP/IFSP meetings, parent conferences, and in-services or other trainings; supports parent involvement in the classroom.
  • Supervises students in a variety of educational settings for up to 30-45 minutes at a time.
  • Uses positive reinforcement strategies and other appropriate techniques to assist students in the development of appropriate behavior and an appreciation of human diversity.
  • Assists in the preparation of a variety of instructional materials and learning aids for use with individual or small groups of students.
  • Maintains a variety of records and files, including confidential student records and information.
  • Requisitions, stores and maintains an appropriate inventory of textbooks, instructional materials, supplies and equipment.
  • May drive a van or automobile to transport students.
  • Assists lead teacher by using good judgment regarding appropriate action to assist injured or physically ill students.
  • Assists in maintaining an orderly, attractive and positive learning environment.
  • Loads and unloads students safely at designated stops and on field trips, helps to buckle children into the supplied five-point restraint.
  • Completes transportation records such as number of students transported, mileage, special runs, route directions, etc.
  • May transport children with special learning needs and physical challenges; may operate power lifts to load and unload students in wheelchairs; and may strap and tie down wheelchairs to ensure student safety.
  • Participate in ECE classes and professional development.
  • Participate in Muckleshoot Language & Culture classes.
  • Study and research Muckleshoot first language speakers.
  • Incorporating the Muckleshoot Language and culture into the daily classroom routine and activities.
  • Assist & prepare materials.
  • Assist w/ large and small group activities.
  • Supervise students.
  • Provide Muckleshoot Language & Culture: Family and Provider engagement activities for all CCDF participants.
