About The Position

This unique law enforcement role supports or acts as an officer within the Enforcement and Compliance Division, which maintains the safety and compliance of Arizona's transportation network at its borders. The division offers roles from customer support to dispatching and senior management. The Enforcement & Compliance Full Authority Officer focuses on public safety by protecting life, property, and the state transportation infrastructure, ensuring safe and efficient movement of commercial traffic. This role enforces state and federal laws and regulations related to commercial vehicle enforcement and regulatory compliance. Responsibilities include completing work assignments and training, making sound decisions, performing arrests when necessary, maintaining professionalism, testifying in court, preparing clear written reports, exercising judgment in the use of force, and promoting compliance with all relevant laws, rules, and regulations. Background checks and in-state/out-of-state travel are required. The Port of Entry operates 24/7, requiring officers to work shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays.

Requirements

• Knowledge of pertinent State and Federal motor vehicle laws, rules and regulations.
• Knowledge of modern law enforcement methods, best practices and procedures.
• Knowledge of Search and Seizure, rules of evidence and custody of prisoners.
• Knowledge of Defensive tactics.
• Knowledge of First Aid, CPR.
• Knowledge of Court systems, procedures and protocols.
• Knowledge of Activity reporting and accounting procedures established for the work system.
• Knowledge of Principles of report writing.
• Previously served as a certified peace officer in Arizona, another state, or federal agency, and meet all of the minimum qualifications for certification as an Arizona Peace Officer.
• Skilled in interpreting relevant State and Federal motor vehicle laws, rules and regulations.
• Skilled in eliciting factual information and drawing valid conclusions.
• Skilled in establishing and maintaining effective relationships with staff members and the general public.
• Skilled in use and care of firearms.
• Skilled in operating police equipment in emergency situations.
• Skilled in exercising discretion in use of force.
• Skilled in verbal and written communication, writing clear and concise reports.
• Skilled in problem solving and using good judgment.
• Completed the basic and advanced training that demonstrates substantial comparability to the Arizona basic course.
• Proficient in Google Workspace.
• Ability to prepare clear and concise reports.
• Ability to communicate effectively with staff members and the general public.
• Ability to maintain moral standards and integrity.

• Ability to obtain and maintain a Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance (CVSA) certification.

• Ability to understand and interpret laws and regulations.
• Ability to obtain an appointment from an Arizona Law Enforcement Agency.
• Arizona Peace Officer Standards and Training (AZPOST) Full Authority certifications.
• Weapons certified in accordance with AZPOST standards.
• Valid Driver's License.
• Individuals who have served honorably as a peace officer in Arizona and their certification has lapsed, or served in another State may be eligible to gain Arizona POST certification through Waiver Testing. Physical Ability Test (PAT) is required for all Waiver Testing.
• Must possess and retain a current, valid class-appropriate driver’s license, complete all required training, and successfully pass all necessary driver’s license record checks.
• Must maintain acceptable driving records, and must complete all required driver training.
• All newly hired State employees are subject to and must successfully complete the Electronic Employment Eligibility Verification Program (E-Verify).

Nice To Haves
