About The Position

Jim Dent Construction is seeking an experienced and qualified Earthworks Foreman to provide field leadership on an active heavy civil project located in the Sparwood / Elkford area of British Columbia. The ideal candidate demonstrates a strong commitment to safe work practices, operational efficiency, and quality earthworks execution. This role involves close collaboration with the Site Superintendent and Project Manager to oversee daily project operations, requiring a strong understanding of Earthworks in Heavy Civil Construction. The candidate must be a strong communicator, capable of engaging and leading a team while also taking direction, with proven experience coordinating and delegating to field teams. Industry knowledge is essential for successful project execution and on-time deliverables.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 5 years' experience in heavy civil construction earthworks projects
  • Willing and able to work shift schedules and travel to, or reside at, remote job sites
  • Solid understanding of heavy equipment operations, sequencing, and site logistics
  • Able to make decisions and direct crew on daily activities
  • Able to engage a team and delegate effectively
  • High degree of comfort with all paperwork required in managing a job site and meeting regulatory requirements
  • Advanced operating skills of all earth moving equipment
  • Proactive and strategic thinker to reduce risks related to safety, environment, and performance
  • Effective problem solver in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
  • Working understanding of Provincial environmental and safety regulations
  • Valid Class 5 driver’s licence

  • Mine Supervisor certification
  • Previous Elk Valley Resources (EVR) or mining experience

Responsibilities

  • Lead and direct field crews on daily earthworks activities, ensuring work is carried out safely, efficiently, and in accordance with project specifications
  • Make timely, informed decisions to maintain production and address operational challenges as they arise
  • Develop, maintain, and manage the project schedule, proactively identifying and mitigating potential delays
  • Foster a positive and productive team environment through clear communication, effective delegation, and hands-on leadership
  • Participate actively in project meetings with stakeholders, managers, and other trades, providing accurate field-level updates and contributing to project planning discussions
  • Complete and maintain all required job site documentation including daily reports, timesheets, safety records, and regulatory paperwork
  • Operate a full range of earth moving equipment at an advanced level, including excavators, dozers and wheel loaders
  • Identify and proactively address risks related to safety, environmental compliance, and project performance before they escalate
  • Ensure all field operations are carried out in compliance with Provincial environmental and safety regulations
