About The Position

The Earthwork Foreman supervises and coordinates workers who excavate and grade rights-of-way for construction projects such as highways, streets, drainage ditches, and dams. The position is located in Brownsville, Texas, and is identified as a night-shift role.

The foreman may oversee crews involved in asphalt paving, fine grading, culvert laying, dumping, or rough grading. The role requires reading engineering drawings, following safety practices and instructions, working in dusty or dirty surroundings, judging distances and slopes, and making decisions based on verifiable standards. The listed job training required to learn the techniques and information needed for average performance is 2 to 4 years.

Requirements

• High school diploma, GED, or equivalent years of experience.

• Ability to read engineering drawings.
• Ability to practice good safety habits.
• Ability to work in dusty or dirty surroundings.
• Ability to follow instructions and meet set standards.

• Ability to stoop, bend, and crouch.
• Ability to use hands, arms, and legs fully.
• Ability to see well, naturally or with correction.
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and frequently lift and carry objects weighing up to 25 pounds.

Responsibilities

• Measure distances from reference points to locate construction-site boundaries.
• Direct crews operating vehicles and machines to dump, scrape, and spread dirt.
• Verify the curvature of graded surfaces using a hand level.
• Perform other duties described under Supervisor.
• May supervise bituminous paving crews.
• May supervise crews operating machines to tamp, roll, and smooth highway subgrade surfaces.
• May supervise workers laying drainage tile and concrete or metal culverts.
• May supervise workers engaged in dumping or rough grading.
