About The Position

This Early Stage Innovation R&D Co-Op position is within the Wound Closure & Healing (WC&H) team, part of the Johnson & Johnson MedTech Surgery organization in Raritan, New Jersey. The MedTech Organization has a long history as a pioneer in suture development and manufacturing, contributing to advancements in both open and minimally-invasive surgery. The team offers a wide array of products, platforms, and technologies, including sutures, hemostasis products, surgical staplers, trocars, energy devices, and synthetic mesh devices. These are utilized in various surgical procedures for conditions such as obesity, cardiovascular disease, cancer, colorectal and thoracic conditions, women's health, hernias, and oncology. The co-op term is from January to July 2027, with a full-time requirement of 40 hours per week.

Requirements

• Completion of Undergraduate Freshman year at an accredited University is required.
• Be enrolled (not necessarily taking classes) in an accredited college/university during the Co-op session.
• Currently pursuing a bachelor’s or master´s degree in Mechanical, Robotics, Electrical, Chemical, Materials Science, Biomedical Engineering, or related fields.
• Have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher, which is reflective of all college coursework.
• You must not have any Summer Internship contract or other employment commitment that could interfere with the contract dates specified for this position.
• Proficiency using SolidWorks computer-aided design (CAD) to create 3D models is required.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Word, Excel, and Power Point, and have strong oral and written communication skills is required.
• Permanently authorized to work in the U.S., must not require sponsorship of an employment visa (e.g., H-1B or green card) at the time of application or in the future.
• Students currently on CPT, OPT, or STEM OPT usually requires future sponsorship for long term employment and do not meet the requirements for this program unless eligible for an alternative long-term status that does not require company sponsorship.
• If you are under 18 years of age, you (the candidate) may need to obtain the necessary working papers or other documentation required by state law to start the assignment, as well as get a parent’s consent for the background check.

Nice To Haves

• Experience with robotic system development is a plus.
• Ability to write, debug, and maintain code at a fundamental level is a plus.
• Demonstrated leadership and/or participation in campus programs and/or community service activities is desired.
• A high level of organization and the ability to handle multiple tasks.
• Be comfortable working independently, as well as on a team.

Responsibilities

• Hands-on laboratory work in an engineering lab.
• Crafting and evaluating prototypes.
• Performing studies and developing test methods and fixtures.
• Attending and participating in voice-of-customer (VOC) labs.
• Collaborating with engineers and outside suppliers to support project related activities.
• Good documentation practices, including writing test protocols, generating final reports, and documenting meeting minutes.
