About The Position

Ethicon Inc, part of the Johnson & Johnson Medical Devices Companies, is recruiting for a Co-Op for Spring 2027. This is a laboratory-based position in Raritan, NJ. Ethicon has made significant contributions to surgery for over 60 years, focusing on innovation to address global health care issues and improve lives. This position will join the Analytical Characterization group within the research and development organization. The Co-Op will perform hands-on experiments in polymer characterization and wet chemistry under the supervision of lab scientists, collaborate with analytical associates, and manage samples and data under lab managers. They will also participate in New Product Development project teams, interact with cross-functional R&D associates, develop analytical methods, and deliver results to support product development.

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled in an accredited College/University, pursuing a BA/BS degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Material Science, or related fields.
  • Must not be a Senior graduating prior to the program end date (Seniors must be willing/allowed to extend graduation date if applied and hired).
  • A minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 is required.
  • Knowledge of basic chemistry lab skills is required.
  • Must be able to work permanently in the US and must not require sponsorship for employment visa status now or in the future (e.g., FI, H1-B status).
  • Available to work full-time (40 hours/week).
  • Reliable transportation to and from work.

Nice To Haves

  • Bench work experience in chemistry.
  • Good communication and writing skills.
  • Permanently authorized to work in the U.S., must not require sponsorship of an employment visa (e.g., H-1B or green card) at the time of application or in the future. Students currently on CPT, OPT, or STEM OPT usually requires future sponsorship for long term employment and do not meet the requirements for this program unless eligible for an alternative long-term status that does not require company sponsorship.

Responsibilities

  • Perform polymer characterization and wet chemistry experiments.
  • Execute methods or procedures in support of new product development and life-cycle management.
  • Perform sample management and data curation.
  • Conduct sample preparation, testing, data collection, notebook recording, data analysis, and data reporting.
  • Log in and manage samples submitted from the stability group.
  • Follow appropriate safety protocols for work in chemical laboratories.
  • Participate in New Product Development project teams.
  • Interact with cross-functional R&D development associates.
  • Develop analytical methods.
  • Deliver results to support product development.
