About The Position

The Early Reading Interventionist (ERI) position aims to enhance student reading success in the critical early developmental years (kindergarten through third grade) by providing targeted, evidence-based interventions. This role involves implementing the district's curriculum and instructional expectations for the ERI program, including detailed progress monitoring. The ERI will also foster a safe and positive learning environment, and provide feedback to classroom teachers, students, parents, and administration regarding student progress, expectations, and goals. This position is funded through State Early Education allotment funds and its continuation is dependent on the availability of these funds.

Requirements

  • Valid Texas teaching certificate.
  • Expertise in early literacy curriculum, assessment, instructional delivery, and staff development.
  • Deep understanding of the scientific research base for instruction.
  • Extensive knowledge of reading program components.
  • Teaching experience within the field of early literacy.
  • Knowledgeable about proven scientific-based research strategies.
  • Knowledgeable about appropriate use of assessment and intervention strategies for struggling students in reading.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Bilingual Certification or ESL Supplemental.
  • Texas Reading Academies Certificate of Completion, Science of Teaching Reading Certification OR applicable licensure from an accredited organization (CALT, CALP, LDT).
  • Five years of successful teaching experience.

Responsibilities

  • Collects, analyzes, and prepares data (e.g., K-2 early reading assessment) for interpretation, identification, progress monitoring, and reporting to the district and parents.
  • Works with classroom teachers to identify student needs in areas such as phonemic awareness, phonics skills, decoding skills, fluency, and comprehension, and develops appropriate interventions.
  • Demonstrates effective reading intervention methods to teachers and paraprofessionals.
  • Instructs students in a “push-in” setting to improve reading success and assess reading concepts and proficiencies.
  • Develops and coordinates reading schedules with classroom teachers in Kindergarten, 1st, and 2nd grades to provide intervention to Tier 3 students.
  • Prepares teaching materials and reports for intervention lesson plans and documenting student progress.
  • Maintains confidentiality of all information.
  • Manages student behavior to provide a safe and optimal learning environment.
  • Monitors student progress and provides regular feedback to students, teachers, and parents, determining interventions for at-risk students.
  • Plans RLA weekly with target grade level teachers.
  • Facilitates professional development for campus staff on reading strategies.
  • Mentors classroom teachers and support staff in the instructional process.
  • Meets monthly with the program director for professional development on evidence-based best practices.
  • Participates in meetings such as ARD and LPAC.
  • Maintains regular communication with parents and teachers via phone, email, notes, letters, and meetings.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Responsible for properly maintaining district records and adhering to district policies for records maintenance and learning the records retention schedule.
