About The Position

Assist with general engineering, administrative duties, and basic machining tasks under close supervision. This role involves supporting senior machinists and office personnel, performing basic machine operations with supervision, assisting with engineering and office functions, conducting simple metrology tests, and completing data entry and paperwork. The apprentice will learn to read blueprints, make minor CNC machine adjustments, and develop an understanding of machining principles. Collaboration with cross-functional teams and contributing to performance goals are also key aspects of the position. The role requires adherence to safety procedures and maintaining good housekeeping.

Requirements

  • Enrolled in High School or recent High School diploma.
  • Extremely accurate and detailed.
  • Excellent mechanical aptitude.
  • Highly motivated and a self-starter.
  • Possess a positive team-oriented attitude.
  • Ability to multi-task without losing efficiency or accuracy.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Strong organization, prioritizing, documentation, and follow-up skills.
  • Ability to accept new responsibilities in a changing work environment.

Responsibilities

  • Provide support and assistance to senior level machinists and office personnel.
  • Perform basic clean up, job preparation, set-ups and operation of machine tools with supervision.
  • Assist with engineering and office functions and tasks as assigned.
  • Perform simple metrology tests as directed and report issues or variances as instructed.
  • Complete assigned data entry and paperwork assigned per expectations.
  • Learn to read multi-view drawings and blueprints with general assistance.
  • Make minor adjustments per direction to CNC machine tools.
  • Develop a general understanding of feeds, speeds, and tooling.
  • Become well versed in the capabilities of each of the machine tools in the facility.
  • Contribute to meeting performance goals for scrap, rework, labor efficiency and downtime.
  • Collaborate with other cross-functional team members i.e. engineering, programming, scheduling, purchasing and sales.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Follow all applicable safety procedures and policies as outlined in the BMG Employee Handbook.
  • Maintain good housekeeping in work area.
