About The Position

Provides direct and indirect educationally related services to all students. Responsible for planning and implementing developmentally appropriate curriculum under the guidelines of ECEAP Performance Standards and Early Achievers. This position pertains to all children enrolled in the program. All positions include instructional and supervisory duties.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in the field of Early Childhood Education or Child Development from an accredited public or private institution of higher education and minimum of one year of successful experience working in a preschool or kindergarten; or
  • Valid Washington State elementary teaching certificate with an endorsement in early childhood education or early childhood special education and one year of successful experience working with preschool age children; or
  • Associate or higher degree with the equivalent of 30 college quarter credits in early childhood education. These 30 credits may be included in the degree or in addition to the degree and a minimum of two years successful experience working in a preschool or kindergarten.
  • Experience with children from low income families in an education setting is preferred.
  • Valid first aid/CPR card
  • Food handlers’ card
  • Negative T.B. test
  • DCYF portable background check.
  • Within 90 days of hire must have health clearance, immunizations, and other required training as per DCYF licensing regulations.
  • Knowledge of developmentally appropriate discipline techniques for young children.
  • Demonstrate ability to communicate clearly and effectively with staff, children, parents and volunteers.
  • Must be self-directed, motivated, punctual and flexible.
  • Ability to work as a team member.
  • Ability to use effective organization and time management skills.
  • Ability to provide training and support to volunteers.
  • Ability to follow directions/guidance from principal, coach, or ECEAP Coordinator.

Responsibilities

  • Designing, implementing and collaborating with Special Service teaching staff and specialists.
  • Using documentation in accordance with ECEAP Performance Standards and Early Achievers to design educational curriculum.
  • Incorporating the use of Creative Curriculum, 2nd Steps, and Pyramid Model.
  • Implementing the daily classroom program, including music, meals, group projects, free choice time and supervision of students.
  • Organizing indoor/outdoor, quiet/active activities appropriate to age group for the purpose of actively participating in the learning activities with children.
  • Encouraging and supporting family involvement in all aspects of the program, including home visits, parent/teacher conferences, and classroom volunteering.
  • Communicating information and helping to motivate parents to participate in other program involvement activities.
  • Preparing and organizing the classroom and classroom materials in accordance with the planned classroom program.
  • Maintaining classroom equipment, work areas/playground, etc., for the purpose of ensuring availability of items, providing reliable information, and/or ensuring a safe and sanitary environment.
  • Interacting positively with all children to support their individual learning and meet their emotional needs.
  • Instructing children (e.g. nutrition, self-care, social, motor skills, cognitive, language skills, etc.) for the purpose of optimizing development of each child.
  • Facilitating small group activities for the purpose of providing classroom activities and routines that support individual/group needs and/or delivering services in compliance with established guidelines.
  • Preparing and serving snacks and meals; participating in and facilitating mealtime service (including meal counts) and conversation.
  • Documenting peer interactions, social/emotional conversations, and all learning that occurs.
  • Being knowledgeable of all health plans/medications.
  • Administering first aid as needed.
  • Being familiar with safety procedures and emergency protocols.
  • Overseeing health habits in the classroom, i.e., hand washing, tooth brushing, etc.
  • Checking indoor and outdoor environment for safety hazards.
  • Completing daily attendance/meal count.
  • Responsible for record keeping on individual children and families in accordance with federal and ECEAP Performance Standards.
  • Monitoring classroom staff, volunteers, and students in a variety of educational settings (e.g. classroom, playground, field trips, etc.) for the purpose of providing a safe and positive learning environment.
  • Responding to emergency situations for the purpose of resolving immediate safety concerns and/or directing to appropriate personnel for resolution.
  • Completing thirty hours of Basic MERIT training by hire date; plus 15 hours of MERIT training required annually.
  • Completing required Teaching Strategy Gold online training and reliability test within six months of their online training or within six months of the beginning of the school year.
  • Completing mandatory MLSD annual training.
  • Gaining knowledge and skills by participating in in-service training, staff meetings and other training opportunities throughout the year.
  • Contributing to good communication, teamwork and mutual support among staff and families.
  • Keeping informed of ongoing program changes and updates.
  • Maintaining regular attendance; adhering to absence protocol to maintain the adult-child ratios required by the Department of Early Learning.
  • Attending early learning preschool meetings and activities including some evenings.
  • Following universal precautions when caring for the hygiene needs, including diapering of children.
  • Performing other duties as assigned.
