About The Position

The primary purpose of this position is to lead and support statewide early literacy and numeracy initiatives through the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of evidence-based instructional supports, professional learning systems, and technical assistance for Montana educators, including early targeted interventions described in § 20-7-1803, MCA. The specialist will collaborate with educators, administrators, parents, and community stakeholders to design and implement evidence-based strategies that promote literacy and numeracy skills among young children. Technical support for the field, providing professional learning, and keeping up on best practices are critical components of this position.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in education, early childhood development, curriculum and instruction, educational leadership, or related field.
  • Minimum of three years of experience in early literacy or numeracy instruction, instructional coaching, professional learning, curriculum leadership, or related educational leadership work.
  • Experience designing and facilitating professional learning for adult learners.
  • Knowledge of early literacy and numeracy and instructional strategies for young children.
  • Knowledge with state and national early childhood education standards and frameworks.
  • Knowledge of research-based practices and evidence-based interventions in early literacy and numeracy.
  • Skilled in communication and interpersonal skills to effectively collaborate with diverse stakeholders both verbally and in writing.
  • Knowledge of adult learning theory and high-quality professional learning design.
  • Knowledge of ARM 10.55.714 and Learning Forward Standards for Professional Learning.
  • Skilled in data-informed decision-making and continuous improvement cycles.
  • Skilled in organizational skills and ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Ability to adapt to changing priorities and needs in the field of early childhood literacy and numeracy.
  • Knowledge and experience in operations, data management, and reporting.
  • Ability to problem-solving, risk management, and strategic thinking abilities.
  • Knowledge of K-12 education, and related policies and regulations.
  • Skilled in managing projects, time, and operations.
  • Ability to multitask and deadline management abilities.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive issues.
  • Must reside in Montana.
