About The Position

The YMCA of Northeastern Ontario is seeking enthusiastic Early Learning Assistants to create safe, nurturing, and inspiring environments for children. As an Early Learning Assistant, you will be a key part of a dynamic team supporting children's development through play-based learning, meaningful relationships, and a commitment to health and safety. These are part-time positions located in various locations throughout the City of Sudbury.

Requirements

  • Grade 12 Diploma or equivalent
  • Minimum of two (2) years working with children and/or youth
  • Current Standard First Aid with Infant and Child CPR (Level C) Recognized by the WSIB
  • Knowledge of Child Care and Early Years Act, 2014
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills
  • Health Assessment from Medical Professional and Immunizations Record
  • Current and satisfactory Police Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening (dated within the last 6 months)

  • Certification in YMCA Playing to Learn and Healthy Child Development is an asset

Responsibilities

  • Provide attentive, compassionate supervision to ensure each child’s health, safety, and well-being.
  • Keep accurate attendance records and conduct regular head counts.
  • Plan and deliver engaging educational programming using YMCA curricula: YMCA Playing to Learn™, A Place to Connect™, Zen-er-gy™, and Healthy Childhood Development.
  • Track children’s development through documentation and open communication with families and community partners.
  • Follow YMCA policies and the Child Care & Early Years Act (CCEYA), along with guidelines from Public Health, Fire Department, and other agencies.
  • Conduct daily safety scans of indoor and outdoor spaces before and after programming.
  • Ensure all areas are clean, organized, and safe for children and staff.
  • Sanitize toys, equipment, and furnishings according to YMCA and Public Health standards.
  • Adapt the physical environment to meet the needs of all children, prioritizing safety and inclusion.
  • Uphold legal responsibilities under the Child & Family Services Act, including the Duty to Report.
  • Record live attendance and ensure it matches the number of children in your care.
  • Attend monthly team meetings and participate in ongoing professional development.
  • Collaborate with your supervisor on goal setting and performance reviews.
  • Complete required documentation for incidents, health and safety, and child development.
  • Use Weemarkable to share daily updates with families.
  • Safely store confidential records and data.
  • Support the team with other duties as assigned.
