Requirements

  • Minimum of 16 years of age.
  • Be able to lift 25 lbs
  • Have an understanding of growth and development
  • Meet qualifications needed for South Dakota State Childcare Licensing
  • CPR/AED and First Aid Certifications required within 60 days of hire, other YMCA required training within 60 days of hire.
  • Excellent interpersonal and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
  • Be passionate about the YMCA mission and vision and must personally advocate and demonstrate the core values of honesty, respect, responsibility and caring.
  • Basic knowledge of computers.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure the safety and security of each child in your care
  • Nurture children through purposeful programming, implement mission based, age-appropriate curricula as set forth by the lead teacher.
  • Develop and maintain positive relationships with all youth in your care
  • Handles and resolves membership concerns and informs supervisor of unusual situations or unresolved issues.
  • Provides and welcomes ongoing positive dialog and relations with YMCA families.
  • Complete continuing education annual requirements.
  • Maintain excellent room appearance and proper maintenance and use of equipment, supplies, and materials.
  • Learn and actively implement YMCA Social and Emotional Curriculum, Conscious Discipline.
  • Completes opening and closing procedures as required.
  • Follow all childcare policies and procedures as set forth in the childcare employ handbook
  • Applies all YMCA safety and emergency procedures and state and local codes.
  • Accurately complete an incident/accident report for each incident/accident and submit and report it in accordance with staff training.
