About The Position

The EHS Director of Health & Safety has overall responsibility for the management and oversight of the health and safety of children, families, and staff of the Early Head Start program as outlined in the Head Start Performance Standards and by the Pennsylvania Department of Human Services. The Director provides expert advice that guides service delivery and development of policies and procedures related to all health, safety, and nutrition activities of the EHS program in both Montgomery County and South Philadelphia.

Requirements

  • Understanding of MCC’s mission, goals, and objectives and ability to work independently with a high level of energy and contribute as part of a larger team.
  • Expert level knowledge of the concepts and practices associated with community health issues, particularly with pregnant women, prenatal care, child development, parenting and other services for mothers, young children, and their families.
  • Ability to travel in and around the Montgomery County/Philadelphia region to provide services as needed.
  • Knowledge of and sensitivity to the issues facing the community served as well as knowledge of community resources.
  • Knowledge of theories, principles, and practices of child development, health service delivery systems, and parent involvement in early childhood.
  • Experience in staff training and child services delivery systems.
  • Ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds and as a member of a team.
  • Ability to collaborate with other agencies.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills.
  • Good record keeping and organizational skills; ability to manage multiple tasks.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Excellent computer skills (comfortable with Microsoft Outlook, Excel, Word and PowerPoint).
  • Valid License to practice Nursing required (RN)
  • Valid driver’s license

Nice To Haves

  • 5+ years’ experience working with prenatal clients, newborns and/or children under 3 years old preferred
  • Experience in program planning and monitoring
  • 3+ years of supervisory experience preferred
  • Obtain a current Proctor Level ServSafe Certification within first 90 days of hire.

Responsibilities

  • Serves as member of EHS Senior Leadership Team which ensures high quality services to families and develops strategic direction for the entire EHS program.
  • Participates in MCC leadership activities and collaborates with leaders across the organization.
  • Monitors Office of Head Start and PA Department of Human Service’s changes to health and safety requirements and implements them.
  • Ensures adherence to Head Start Performance Standards and timely completion of screenings and assessments.
  • Supports direct service staff and their supervisors in the delivery of health, nutrition, and safety services in the program.
  • Develops guidelines, policies, and procedures in keeping with Performance Standards; reviews and revises annually.
  • Prepares monthly data and program reports; completes reports to funders and contractors as assigned.
  • Assists in promoting health and safety practices, including performing monthly health and safety checks at MCC sites and at partner childcare centers.
  • Trains, arranges, and monitors completion of in-service health and safety training for EHS staff.
  • Works with and appropriately trains all EHS staff to support children and families with health/medical needs, and any accommodation deemed necessary.
  • Supervises health and nutrition staff and consultants.
  • Plans for and facilitates quarterly Health Services Advisory Committee meetings including ensuring a broad-based membership of health service providers, insurance providers and community representation.
  • Monitors accurate and timely completion of activities, reports, training, and documentation related to the CACFP grant and adherence to ServSafe practices.
  • Maintains a current Proctor Level ServSafe Certification, monitors staff expected to maintain current ServSafe certifications, and proctors testing for Management Level ServSafe certification for appropriate staff.
  • As part of the EHS Leadership Team, participates in conducting the Community Needs Assessment, the annual Self-Assessment, refunding applications, and program improvement plans.
  • Adheres to MCC’s security guidelines and ensures the appropriate handling of sensitive information.
