About The Position

As an Early College Teacher at Veritas Prep High School, you will support students academically and socially in Early College (EC) courses. This role involves facilitating an Early College Lab to help students master college-level skills and content. You will collaborate with a team to create an inclusive community that centers students, fosters student-led discourse, critical thinking, and leadership skills. Your responsibilities include attending EC classes on both high school and college campuses to understand the student perspective, maintaining student progress records, providing attendance records, and offering instructional and behavior management support during college classes as directed by professors. You will also serve as a liaison between Veritas Prep and faculty from Springfield Technical Community College and Worcester State University, communicating any faculty concerns to the Dean of Early College and Student Success Managers. Additionally, you will prepare data for and attend biweekly meetings to track student progress, plan and implement Early College Lab classes, and deliver lessons or materials to support college course content. You will also encourage, monitor, and provide feedback on individual student progress, adjusting teaching strategies as needed. Additional duties include teaching a Seminar course on college and career readiness, demonstrating skill in working with diverse student populations, promptly responding to communications from families and coworkers, serving as a club advisor, and performing other assigned duties.

Nice To Haves

  • One to three years of teaching experience preferred.
  • Massachusetts DESE Elementary Licensure Preferred, or eligibility to achieve Highly Qualified status within one year of employment, demonstrated by: a passing score on the Communications and Literacy Skills (Reading and Writing) MTEL, and a passing score on a relevant subject area MTEL

Responsibilities

  • Support students to be successful in Early College (EC) classes.
  • Attend EC classes on the high school and/or college campuses and engage from the student perspective by taking notes, previewing coursework, understanding syllabus and assignments.
  • Maintain accurate and complete records of students' academic and behavioral progress and development.
  • Provide accurate attendance records and sit in on all assigned college courses.
  • Provide instructional and behavior management support of students during classes (as determined by each college professor).
  • Serve as a point of contact for Springfield Technical Community College and Worcester State University faculty, including communicating any faculty questions and concerns to the Dean of Early College and Student Success Managers.
  • Prepare data for and attend biweekly data meetings to track student progress and support all students in the EC classes.
  • Plan and implement Early College Lab classes to support student success.
  • Plan, prepare, and deliver lessons and/or additional instructional materials that support student’s learning of the college course content.
  • Encourage, monitor, and provide feedback on the progress of individual students and use information to adjust teaching strategies.
  • Teach a Seminar course on college and career readiness skills and knowledge.
  • Demonstrate preparation and skill in working with students from diverse cultural, economic, and ability backgrounds.
  • Promptly returning phone calls and answer emails from families and coworkers.
  • Serving as club advisor (as assigned/approved).
  • Performing other duties as assigned.
