About The Position

The Per Diem Teacher Assistant is responsible for being on-call to assist the classroom teacher in supervising children to ensure their safety and well-being; providing instruction and facilitation to groups and individual children under the direction of the Teacher; and collaborating with the Teacher to assess the strengths and needs of children and design appropriate classroom activities. Requirements

  • At least 2 years early childhood experience
  • Ability to work towards CPR & first aid certification

Nice To Haves

  • High School Diploma with some college credits in early childhood, Associates Degree, or CDA preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as per diem substitute teacher assistant to cover staff absences and maintain required student : teacher ratios.
  • Assist teacher in any way possible, which may include, but is not necessarily limited to: Plan activities for assigned groups or individual children.
  • Implement the daily schedule as assigned.
  • Decorate the room with bulletin boards, pictures, children's art work, and other hangings.
  • Serve breakfast, lunches, and snacks.
  • Help with materials and room clean-up and organization.
  • Provide nurturing and supportive environment for children, using positive behavior interventions and preventative strategies to manage classroom behavior.
  • Complete required number of training hours each year by attending local workshops and trainings.
  • Report any special needs or problems of individual children to the classroom teacher.
  • Work with children who have special needs, supporting their developmental and behavioral characteristics.
  • Report any cases of suspected child abuse and/or neglect to Director, or make a direct call to DCYF( 1-800-RICHILD).
  • Assist in supervising naptime, outdoor play and toileting.
  • Follow a rotating work schedule of 8 hours (plus 30 min. lunch) with the times the center is open (7:00 am – 5:30 pm).
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
