About The Position

As a Part-Time Early Childhood Substitute Teacher at Paragon Prep, you will provide dependable classroom coverage and help maintain a safe, nurturing, and engaging learning environment when a regularly scheduled teacher or assistant teacher is absent. Depending on the school’s needs, you may support children across different early childhood classrooms and age groups. You will follow established lesson plans, classroom routines, and care procedures while supporting children’s social, emotional, cognitive, language, and physical development. The ideal candidate is warm, adaptable, dependable, and able to step confidently into different classroom environments while upholding Paragon Prep’s standards for learning, care, safety, and professionalism.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Knowledge of child development and developmentally appropriate practices across early childhood age groups.
  • Ability to follow lesson plans, classroom routines, care instructions, and school procedures with consistency and attention to detail.
  • Strong classroom management, communication, organization, and relationship-building skills.
  • Adaptable, patient, dependable, compassionate, and comfortable working in different classroom environments.
  • Ability to work independently while contributing positively to a collaborative teaching team.
  • Reliable transportation and the ability to report to the school campus for scheduled assignments.
  • Availability to work a flexible, part-time schedule based on school needs; assignments and hours may vary.

Nice To Haves

  • Coursework, a Child Development Associate credential, or an associate’s or bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, or a related field preferred.
  • Previous experience working with young children in a licensed childcare center, preschool, school, or early childhood education setting preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provide classroom coverage on an as-needed basis, following the assigned schedule, lesson plans, routines, and teacher instructions.
  • Deliver developmentally appropriate activities and learning experiences that keep children engaged and supported throughout the day.
  • Create a warm, responsive environment that promotes children’s confidence, curiosity, independence, and sense of belonging.
  • Maintain consistent expectations and use positive, age-appropriate guidance to support classroom management.
  • Adapt quickly to different classrooms, age groups, routines, and student needs.
  • Ensure active supervision and protect children’s health, safety, and well-being at all times.
  • Follow all licensing requirements, school policies, sanitation procedures, emergency protocols, and health and safety guidelines.
  • Support meals, snacks, naps, toileting, diapering, transitions, and other daily care routines as assigned.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, welcoming, and stimulating classroom environment.
  • Use classroom materials and equipment appropriately and return the learning environment to its established condition.
  • Accurately complete attendance, incident, health, and classroom documentation when required.
  • Observe children closely and promptly communicate relevant behavioral, developmental, health, or safety information to the appropriate teacher or school leader.
  • Build positive, respectful relationships with children and interact with families in a warm and professional manner.
  • Collaborate effectively with teachers, assistant teachers, specialists, and school leadership to ensure continuity of care and instruction.
  • Maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment in all interactions.
  • Arrive on time, remain engaged throughout each assignment, and communicate promptly regarding availability or scheduling changes.
  • Remain receptive to feedback, coaching, and continued professional growth.
  • Contribute to a classroom culture where children are safe, happy, engaged, and supported.
