About The Position

Under general supervision, provides professional speech, language and hearing services to students in assigned Tribal program(s). This role involves screening, evaluating, diagnosing, and treating communication-based disorders and/or delays in young children. Services include individual therapy, small group therapy, co-treats with support staff, and utilizing speech and language curriculum including literacy. The position requires using appropriate treatment methods for various communication disorders and developing alternative communication means, including the Muckleshoot Language. Responsibilities also include conducting screenings, making referrals, maintaining records, conducting training for staff, assisting in budget preparation, preparing reports and documentation, and participating in meetings such as MDT, IFSP, and IEP. The role may also involve a wide range of office and field duties as needed for community service.

Requirements

A Master’s Degree in speech/language pathology
Washington State Certification in Speech Pathology
One (1) year of related experience in a diverse educational and clinical setting
Knowledge of speech and language acquisition, neurological, cognitive, social and emotional development, anatomy and physiology of auditory and vocal mechanisms and disorders, specialized equipment and testing techniques used in evaluation and treatment of articulation, language, hearing and voice disorders, evaluation and remedial procedures for sensori-neural learning handicaps and dysphasia’s, principles and techniques of communication disorders, identification and treatment, principles and techniques of aural habilitation/rehabilitation, educational and psychological needs of persons with communications disorders, theories of learning, diagnostic and treatment techniques of otolaryngologists, orthodontists and prosthodontists, community resources in speech and hearing rehabilitation.
Knowledge of and ability to learn, use, and incorporate Baby Sign and the Muckleshoot Language into the Birth to Three and Preschool settings.
Knowledge of and ability to communicate with and serve diverse academic, socio-economic and cultural populations.
A valid Washington State driver’s license is required at the time of appointment or at a time set by the Tribe.
Incumbents must pass a criminal background check, a drug screen and meet all health and immunizations requirements required federal, state or Tribal laws and regulations.
A valid First Aid/CPR card, Food Handler’s permit and a Muckleshoot Language Certificate may be required at the time of appointment or at a time set by the Tribe.

Responsibilities

Screens, evaluates, diagnoses and treats communication-based disorders and/or delays in young children using various methodologies including individual, small group, co-treats with Support Staff therapists and therapist’s assistants and speech and language curriculum including literacy.
Uses appropriate treatment methods for receptive and expressive language disabilities, aural habilitation/rehabilitation, articulation and voice disorders, stuttering and development of alternative means of communication (e.g. sign language, etc. including the Muckleshoot Language as approved by the Muckleshoot Language Department)
Conducts and/or coordinates speech, language and audiology audiology screenings.
Makes medical, audiological or other referrals as appropriate; maintains records of communication evaluations, medical history, treatment, training and follow-up care.
Conducts training for lay and professional staff concerning speech, language and hearing disabilities; participates in planning orientation and training of personnel.
Assists in budget preparation for speech, language and hearing identification treatment program.
Prepares evaluations, various reports, goals and objectives, documentation and correspondence as required.
Schedules and participates in MDT, IFSP and/or IEP meetings.
Participates in various program and Tribal meetings; meets with specialists, representatives of other divisions, governmental agencies, other organizations and agencies.
Performs a wide range of office and field duties from time to time, which may or may not be related to their regular responsibilities.
