About The Position

MOSAIC is seeking a motivated On-call Early Childhood Educator to join their Early Learning Programs team. This is for a new non-licensed drop-in Early Learning and Play Program in Metrotown, designed to offer parents a break while providing children with a safe, caring, and welcoming space for learning and play. Children can stay for a maximum of 2 hours and participate in play-based early learning experiences inspired by the BC Early Learning Framework. Activities are guided by children’s interests and support curiosity, communication, creativity, problem-solving, social connection, independence, and confidence. The program aims to give parents flexible support while offering children a positive place to learn, play, and grow.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of programming and childcare issues.
  • Knowledge of BC Childcare Services Policy and Standards manual.
  • Knowledge of Canadian childcare standards.
  • Knowledge of development needs of children.
  • Knowledge of needs and interests of children from diverse communities who face barriers as immigrants/refugees.
  • Specific knowledge related to the function or the focus of the program, project, or service.
  • High school completion.
  • Early Childhood Education Diploma/Certificate.
  • Up-to-date BC license to practice.
  • First Aid Certificate.
  • Food Safe 1 Certification.
  • WHMIS Certification.
  • BC Vaccination Record.
  • Experience with BC Childcare practices.
  • Awareness of and work within the ECEBC Code of Ethics.
  • Valid and satisfactory background check required.
  • More than one year of experience in evaluating and developing curriculum materials, providing activities, and facilitating play-based activities for children and their parents/caregivers.
  • Experience working with an immigrant population and/or diverse cultural backgrounds, and/or comparable education or other program, or project specialties.
  • Must be legally permitted to work in Canada through citizenship or permanent resident status. If you have a work permit, ensure that it allows you to work for the duration of this position.

Responsibilities

  • Be familiar with MOSAIC’S vision, mission, values, strategic plan, and integrated client service delivery approach, program and/or project proposals and contracts, and your role in achieving the goals and contractual outcomes of the department.
  • Model the Early Childhood Educators of BC (ECEBC) goals of best practice in an early childhood program and commit to ECEBC Code of Ethics.
  • Unless law requires disclosure, maintain confidentiality of all information related to the program, the children, their families, and staff.
  • Plan and implement developmentally and culturally appropriate activities for children’s programs that are child-centered and conform to MOSAIC childcare policy and procedure.
  • Include experiences in programming that reflect a variety of cultures and value systems, and encourage children to practice self-help techniques.
  • Establish a daily schedule that incorporates child-directed activities, care routines, transition times, and a balance of active/quiet, individual/group, and inside/outside activities.
  • Develop a variety of visual and hands-on materials and teaching techniques that include modeling, observing, questioning, demonstrating, and reinforcing.
  • Organize and regularly evaluate the childcare space and all equipment and materials.
  • Maintain the children’s developmental records and observation forms.
  • Engage in a variety of parent/caregiver specific including give language appropriate orientation to new families.
  • Make resource information available to the parents/caregivers, and inform the manager or coordinator of any concerns that may need follow-up or referral.
  • Maintain and add to knowledge of early childhood education and advocacy.
