About The Position

MOSAIC is seeking a motivated Early Childhood Educator Assistant to join their Burnaby Early Learning Centre team. This is for a new non-licensed drop-in Early Learning and Play Program in Metrotown, designed to offer parents a break while providing children with a safe, caring, and welcoming space for learning and play under the supervision of certified and experienced Early Childhood Educators. Children can stay for a maximum of 2 hours and engage in play-based early learning experiences inspired by the BC Early Learning Framework. Activities are guided by children's interests and aim to support curiosity, communication, creativity, problem-solving, social connection, independence, and confidence. The program recognizes the importance of the first five years for learning, growth, and development, offering meaningful opportunities for children to explore, connect, and build skills through play, while providing parents with flexible support.

Requirements

  • ECEA License to practice
  • At least 19 years of age
  • Understanding and respect for various child-rearing practices, familiar with BC ELFW, and BC CCLR Act with minimum of the High school completion
  • First aid certificate, Food Safe and WHMIS certifications
  • Tuberculosis screening & immunization record
  • Some experience working with children in an educational setting.
  • Must be reliable, sensitive to the needs and concerns of immigrant families, versatile, and flexible
  • Criminal Record Check required
  • English communication skills
  • Must be legally permitted to work in Canada through citizenship or permanent resident status. If you have a work permit, please ensure that it allows you to work for the duration of this position.

Responsibilities

  • Under the direction of the Childcare Manager or Coordinator, the Early Childhood Educator Assistant helps ECE staff with the programming for children.
  • Be familiar with MOSAIC's childcare programming philosophy and educational objectives and understands clearly his/her role in achieving the stated goals and contractual outcomes.
  • Be familiar with strategies outlined in the Ministry of Health documents "Guiding Children’s Behaviors " and "Ensure the Child's Environment is Healthy and Safe".
  • Be familiar with program plans prior to beginning work each day, and covering ECE during active/quiet, individual/group, and outside/inside activities, as directed by ECE, their coffee breaks, following the scheduled child-directed activities, care routines, transition times.
  • Responsible for tasks related to food preparation, kitchen duties, and routine kitchen maintenance and maintains food supplies.
  • Supports ECE staff in planning and implementing developmentally and culturally appropriate activities for children's programs.
  • Assists and interacts with children appropriately, using a variety of techniques that include modeling, observing, questioning, demonstrating and reinforcing.
  • Organizes and cleans the childcare space, equipment, and materials.
  • Attends and takes an active role in department staff meeting, as appropriate.
  • Assist Coordinator by faxing, scanning, copying and filing documents.
