About The Position

Today's Family is seeking a Before and After School Early Childhood Educator (RECE) to provide quality and inclusive care for children aged 6-8 years at their Halton Before and After School programs. The role involves ensuring safe environments, promoting responsive interactions, and implementing the pedagogy outlined in the 'How Does Learning Happen?' document. The educator will provide supervision, engage children in inclusive programs, and foster a sense of belonging, well-being, expression, and engagement while adhering to agency policies and procedures.

Requirements

  • Diploma or degree in Early Childhood Education
  • Current knowledge and understanding of the Child Care and Early Years Act (CCEYA)
  • Thorough knowledge of How Does Learning Happen?
  • Experience working with children in a child care setting
  • Record of up-to-date Immunization (TB Test, Tetanus, Polio, MMR)
  • Registered Early Childhood Educator, in good standing
  • Standard First Aid and CPR-C Certification
  • Current Vulnerable Sector Check (done in the last 6 months)

Responsibilities

  • Provide enhanced support to Before and After School Programs in the Halton Community to improve access and optimal participation of children with special needs.
  • Ensure all children have the opportunity to actively participate in the program and are supported to form authentic, caring relationships with peers and educators.
  • Collaborate with program educators and make referrals to support children's needs with the Program Supervisor and other educators.
  • Supervise, guide, and assist children in daily activities (indoor and outdoor).
  • Provide a safe, caring, positive, and inclusive environment.
  • Maintain up-to-date documentation of children's development and learning.
  • Read individual child's files and be knowledgeable about their medical and developmental histories.
  • Interact with children to encourage their involvement in activities.
  • Provide a warm, safe, and caring environment that is kept orderly, clean, and inclusive.
  • Observe, plan, prepare, and implement daily activities (indoor/outdoor) and foster inclusive practices.
  • Maintain supervision and fulfill children's well-being including toileting, feeding, and general self-care needs.
  • Work with other educators to form a positive, supportive team atmosphere.
  • Ensure confidentiality of privileged information.
  • Maintain adherence to all agency policies and procedures, including safety requirements.
  • Maintain open, friendly, and cooperative relationships with each child's family and encourage their involvement in the program.
