About The Position

The Early Childhood Educator (ECE), as part of a team of ECEs and Child Care Assistants, is responsible for delivering impact-specific, age-appropriate programming to all the children in the program, using a current understanding of child development principles. The ECE assesses each child’s needs and plans and provides programming that promotes positive social, physical, emotional and cognitive development. The ECE fosters a clean and safe environment that encourages healthy interaction and learning.

Requirements

  • ECE II or ECE III Classification from the Manitoba Child Care Program
  • Current Infant/Child First Aid and CPR Certificate
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience working with/caring for children in a childcare facility
  • Demonstrated understanding of child development theory and principles and ability to put that understanding into practice
  • Experience supervising and engaging children throughout the day, during transition, individual and group activities, and free and structured play
  • Ability to use a range of child development approaches, skills, and techniques to optimize each child’s experience and opportunity to leave and develop
  • Experience taking active steps to identify and manage risks to ensure the safety of all children
  • Experience managing behavioral issues in accordance with established policies and practices
  • Experience documenting relevant information regarding children and families and recording program information in accordance with applicable standards and policies
  • Proven knowledge and ability in critical thinking, decision-making, problem-solving, and conflict resolution skills
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize and focus work-related activities to effectively and efficiently achieve goals and produce expected results/outcomes
  • Commitment to the principles that guide Mount Carmel Clinic, as reflected in the history, vision, mission, and values
  • Knowledge and understanding of Indigenous culture and traditions and the impact of colonization on the health and well-being of Indigenous individuals and families
  • Proven ability to work within a team environment with respect, professionalism, cooperation, sensitivity, and cultural awareness
  • Strong knowledge, commitment, and demonstrated ability to apply diversity, equity, cultural safety, pro-choice, social determinants of health, population health, harm reduction, trauma-informed, and community development principles in all aspects of the work.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and proficiency in the use of computers (e-mail, etc.)
