About The Position

This role involves implementing age and developmentally appropriate curriculum and activities, creating daily lesson plans, and supervising children and non-lead teachers. The position requires ongoing observation and evaluation of each child, participation in parent conferences, and maintaining positive communication with parents. Responsibilities also include maintaining the program site and equipment, keeping required records, and attending various program activities and training sessions. The teacher is expected to promote a positive YMCA image, dress professionally, and adhere to all YMCA work rules and procedures. Modeling anti-biased behavior, following state licensing policies, and maintaining staff/child ratios are crucial. The role includes orienting new parents and children, being flexible with room assignments, addressing parent concerns professionally, and cooperating with the director on program changes and coaching.

Requirements

  • A minimum of 12+ ECE units from an accredited college and a commitment to continue education to obtain an AA or BA in Early Childhood Education or a related field.
  • Infant Toddler ECE units are required. Completed of infant and toddler courses from an accredited college with a "C" grade or better.
  • Complete in-house and online Safety, Sexual Harassment, Child Abuse Prevention, Mandated Reporter and other assigned trainings within the first 30 days of hire.
  • Up-to-date TB test every 2 years. If you have a chest x-ray on file a TB test is no longer required.
  • Must have a current Live scan active on file.
  • CPR/AED, and First Aid Certification, must include Adult and Child/Infant, obtained within 30 days of hire and must be from one of the following certifying organizations: American Red Cross, American Heart Association, American Safety & Health Institute.

Nice To Haves

  • One year previous experience working with infants and/or toddlers in a developmental setting preferred.
  • Previous experience with diverse populations. Ability to develop positive, authentic relationships with people from different backgrounds.

Responsibilities

  • Implements age and developmentally appropriate curriculum and activities within the established guidelines.
  • Implements daily lesson/activity plans for the classroom. Submits lesson plans weekly.
  • Supervises the children and non-lead teachers, classroom, and all activities.
  • Makes ongoing, systematic observations and evaluations of each child.
  • Participates in parent conferences when necessary, and maintains positive relationships and effective communication with parents.
  • Maintains program site and equipment.
  • Maintains required program records.
  • Attends and participates in family nights, program activities, material explorations, staff meetings, and staff training.
  • Ability to plan, lead and participate in activities.
  • Promote, establish and maintain a positive YMCA image at all times.
  • Dress in an appropriate and professional manner following YMCA rules and guidelines.
  • Follow YMCA work rules and procedures to complete all assigned tasks and duties in an efficient, timely and positive manner at all times.
  • Model anti-biased behavior towards children, parents or staff.
  • Follow all YMCA, Child Development Department, and State Licensing policies and procedures at all times.
  • Maintain State Licensing and staff/child ratios requirements at all times.
  • Helps orient new parents and children to the program, assisting with tours as needed.
  • Be flexible with their room assignments, willing to assist in the classrooms that need their help with a positive attitude.
  • Address parent concerns and comments in a timely and professional manner; keep the Early Learning Center Director informed of all parent concerns and issues.
  • Cooperate with the director through any program changes, investigations, and coaching opportunities.
