About The Position

The City of Grand Junction is seeking an Early Childhood Education Director to lead operations at our childcare facility. This role is responsible for overseeing staff, programs, and daily operations while ensuring a safe, high-quality, and nurturing learning environment. The Director will support program development, regulatory compliance, and family engagement while promoting excellence in early childhood education. The City of Grand Junction is honored to have an Early Childhood Education Facility meeting the needs of our City's employees and families. Due to the variety of schedules our employees work, the operational hours of the facility are Monday – Friday from 6:30 am to 6:30 pm. Members of the GJ Little Learners faculty and staff are united by their passion to ensure a safe, happy, and stimulating environment. This innovative facility will focus on creating a world of learning, joy, and adventure for the children and employees of the City of Grand Junction.

Requirements

  • Possession of, or ability to obtain, a Director qualification letter or certificate issued by the State of Colorado’s Department of Human Services, or a Current Early Childhood Professional Credential Level 3 or High Version 3.0
  • Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid Colorado driver's license.
  • Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid CPR/First Aid certificate.
  • Possession of, or ability to obtain, the City of Grand Junction Leadership Track certification within two (2) years of appointment.
  • Bachloer's degree with major course work in recreation administration, leisure studies, elementary education, child developmen tor a related field.
  • Two (2) years of experience in the coordination or implementation of recreational or childcare programs.
  • Other combinations of experience and education that meet the minimum requirements may be substituted.
  • This position is a safety position, which means you will be subject to random drug screens due to the nature of the work performed.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage childcare facility operations, including staff supervision, scheduling, and daily program oversight.
  • Hire, train, and develop childcare staff, ensuring alignment with best practices and maintaining high performance standards.
  • Ensure compliance with all childcare regulations, including safety standards and Office of Early Childhood requirements.
  • Oversee educational programming and curriculum, fostering a positive, engaging, and developmentally appropriate learning environment.
  • Maintain strong communication with families, support enrollment, registration, and ongoing engagement.
  • Monitor facility performance and operations, including payroll, expenses, scheduling, and reporting.
  • Maintain accurate records and prepare reports, including enrollment, incidents, and program effectiveness.
  • Manage facility budget and resources, including supplies, materials, and grant opportunities.
  • Serve as a liaison to staff, families, and the community, representing the program and supporting collaboration.
  • Stay current on trends and best practices in early childhood education, participating in training and professional development.
  • Perform other duties of a similar nature or level.
